I think I screwed up :(

Ugh .... I was on mushy foods for like 3 days then realized I could eat real food and moved on to solids. I have no restriction what so ever and can basically eat anything I want. Today I decided to look in my handy dandy information book the surgeon gave me and it says not to move on to solids until day 25 out. I moved on to solids 16 days out. I've gained 8 lbs since I started on regular foods ... granted I was so excited I was basically eating whatever I could get my hands on. :smile2: Plus halloween candy being around really sucks!!

 

So yeah I've resolved to eat better, going to the grocery store today to get some healthy foods ... but ... should I go back to mushy or just eat healthier solids?

 

I am so ready for my first fill so I can not have such freedom and screw this up for myself ... could someone please help me??

I'm sure your not the first person nor the last to do this :) You learned a valuable lesson for down the road even after a fill (I'm on fill #4 & still could eat candy if I wanted). I'd probably go back to poached soft fish, canned chicken, scrambled eggs (southwestern egg beaters are great), cottage cheese. Just for a low-cal jump start. The weight gain was your wake up call, but I think you heard it loud & clear. lol...Good Luck you can do this!

Thanks winks ... I hate cottage cheese though! lol So canned chicken/tuna and cheese omelets? I think thats what I'm gonna do ... I cant keep on this path, last time I stayed on it I got up to 230 on my small 5ft frame!

You also have to be mentally prepared to do battle. Remember that the band is only a tool. It will only help in your battle, it won't win the battle for you. It may take you 2,3, 4, 5 fills to get you the restriction that you are looking for. Even filled you can over eat, or simply eat all the wrong foods.

For me I had no restriction till fill 3. Fill 4 got me comfortable for about 4 weeks. I am now pretty open again. I can eat anything and larger portions. I still follow the plan. Some days I'm hungry and I remind myself that nobody has ever starved to death eating smart.

Your asked to follow the diet closely at first to allow your body to heal fully. Only you and your surgeon really know if this has occured. I suspect going backwards no is mostly unneccesary. Just try to make better food choices and measure your servings.

All that said remember nobody does this perfectly. I know that I don't! Every time you make a food selection ask your self is the food for pleasure or fuel? Is this what I need or want? Keep in mind your goals and how you feel when you make better choices. For me, when I make better choices I lose better, have better energy and feel better about my overall well being. That translates to looking better.

Be kind to yourself. This is all a learning process.

BIG HUGS.... The hardest part when you first get to eat is the fact that there is NO restriction. So a lot of times you are hungry. My kids did not go trick or treating this year, my oldest didn't want to and my two and a half year old doesn't need the candy. I love halloween and to avoid the caloric intake of such an event I am planning costume parties for the kids instead of candy filling trick or treating next year.

Take your time, breathe and remember, if you have a food obsession or you have trouble controling yourself with food, talk to your doctor. You can get additional resources to help you through this process, like the nutritionist.

Throw the candy away. Nobody needs it anyways and the fun was the part about taking your daughter around and getting her dressed up.

Talk to your doctor and nutritionist. Join livestrong.com and log your food and get some recipes. And remember -- the only person you are cheating is yourself. You went through A LOT to get to this point, with post-surgical issues as well. Keep reminding yourself of that as you get hungry. You WILL get hungry for a long time until your mind catches up to your body. You have to teach it to ignore the hunger pangs and have some healthy alternatives to eat.

The first fill will only help you if you allow it to. Before then, do your research and homework and make safer, healthier decisions. The band is a tool, but its one of many you need to incorporate into your healthier lifestyle.

My doc moved me to real foods after 2 weeks. You are fine. Youre right.... eat real foods but keep it to high protien high nutrient food. He clearly told me that many docs keep patients on soft foods way too long. So youre fine. He said as long as you are keeping the food down without any problems it is ok to eat whatever you want ( healty, of course). I have no restricion 1 month after surgery. I know how you feel. It is very hard keeping to 1100 cals, but I do. I have not even lost 1 lb through this though. Thats disappointing. Youre doing ok, keep us posted.
