To be... Or not to be... This is my question

I need some opinions please...

1. Previous to surgery, if you had learned to eat the post op way, without surgery, would you still opt to get the surgery?

2. My biggest fear in life is vomiting, (kind of fear like heights, snakes or enclosed spaces) either way not a fear easily relieved. I myself have not thrown up for almost 10 years and I am so afraid that I will start if I get banded. Does everyone throw up?

I don't believe I could have ate the "Post Op Way" all the time. I feel that what would have happened to me is that I would lose some weight and then over time, gain it all back plus some.

I don't think everyone throws up -- but I will leave that to the fellow responders. In my humble opinion the thought of throwing up isn't as scary as having a stroke or heart attack.

I couldn't eat the post op way without the Band. I'm a little loose right now and I'm having to fight it as hard as I can. I needed this to be able to do the things I need to do.

I haven't "thrown up" like I used to think of throwing up since I got the back. Sometimes I do a spit up or productive burp type of think, but it is not true vomiting.

Best of luck!

I was OK with the post op diet primarily because I knew I had to (I was afraid of my liver being too big!). But, like every other diet I have ever tried, I eventually would have gone back to my old ways. Getting banded was my last resort.

I threw up once, but it was because I ate too big of a bite and didn't chew well. You really have to be concious of what & how you eat. I have gotten food stuck before and had a lot of discomfort, I just keep away from the food that give me a hard time.

The best of luck to you!!!

The band is what allows me to follow the diet and eat the small amounts. The band makes me feel full so I'm not jonesing for food all the time. There is no way I would be where I am without the band. I was banded July 15, 2010 and have not thrown up at all (knock on wood). I am super, super careful - and I know that's not a fool proof thing - some folks are super careful and still have trouble. I don't want to throw up for fear of damaging my band, so I'm being soooo careful. Good luck with your decision.

I am 5 weeks post banding. I have not thrown up once. I too try to be careful and to remember that I need to do this for my life!!! Smaller sizes will be good too but that really is secondary!!

Wow... thank you all for your responses! Thats the first thing I have ever written and I didn't think anyone would answer lol! But thats what I keep telling everyone who asks the big "WHY" is because I feel like I can commit to a change of lifestyle but every "diet" I try, I gain the weight back ... and then some... I feel that the band will be my "net" and hopefully this will stop the rollercoaster
