Help-three weeks post op!

A friend of mine recently suggested I join this site and I'm so glad I did. I'm really struggling and I'm only 3 weeks post surgery! Reading the posts and knowing I'm not alone has really helped. So-on to my problem. I was moved to the soft, mushy food stage just 10 days post surgery. I went on vacation last week and had a really hard time sticking to the mushy foods only. Talk about feeling like a failure! I'm only 3 weeks out and I can't stick to it! Now-I'm absolutely convinced I've caused my band to slip and I've ruined everything. And-I realize I'm talking in absolutes-which I find is a commonality amongst those who struggle with food issues-we are on or off a diet-we will start tomorrow-I've been bad, might as well be really bad...anyway, I digress. I think part of my problem is I don't feel any restriction or anything. It's like I didn't even have surgery-I feel completely back to "normal". So, instead of sticking just to soft foods-I was trying bites of "normal" foods. All was fine except now I'm convinced I've done something bad-really bad. Am I the only bander out there who had trouble sticking to the soft foods phase? I can't seem to find any definitive answers on what it "feels" like to have your band slip so early on in the process. Is there really a less than 5% chance of it happening? The questions go on and on. I've got an appointment with my doctor on Tuesday-let's hope all is well with the band. But-if you've been here and can relate-I'd love to hear from you. Thanks so much.:)

If your band slips you can not keep anything down including liquid so you would be throwing up everything. You are in bandster hell, you have a band but no restriction, like a car with no gas. If you are 3 weeks out you should be close to regular food, just keep reminding yourself you can do anything for a week! Only a few days left! Then you will start getting fills soon and it will all get better, I promise. Go to the forums and read the posts from other successful bander's and take information from them and ignore the rest! You can do it!

Hey....I had my operation on the 1st of July....I called the nurse in a panic....telling her I could eat normally.....she told me that until your first fill you can eat normally and need to be careful as you can put on weight at this stage......I felt cheated as I thought why did I do the operation when I can eat normal.....Boy was I wrong!!!!!!!!! I had my first fill on Wednesday went to have lunch with my sister.....I barely ate 4 bites of Nachos and I felt the pain in my back....I also tried to eat crackers that evening and got a pain in my back....you will notice the band when you have your first fill at 4 to 6 weeks after your operation....

They covered it above. But I have had those feelings a lot over the first couple months -- ate an olive, got stuck or something. Don't feel guilty, don't worry about your band (its pretty hardy in there). Just move on and find ways to distract yourself when you THINK you feel hungry. A big part of the first couple months are as much in your head as they are in your stomach. It does get WAAAY better, and if you can find it in yourself to react positively to the feelings you will start to gain a self-confidence that is amazing!

We will be there all the way with you. Hugs!!!

Sandy

Its only natural that you panic....I know I did.....but when you get your fill you will start to really lose the weight....before my fill I felt I could eat normal and it was I who was keeping myself on a diet.....but when I got the fill ...I really could not eat some things....some people need a few fills until they get the restriction they want....so don't panic....Sandy is right think positive....I started back with my personal trainer to distract me....food was always nice and a comfort now my relationship with food is changing....and for the better.....you are doing great :)

I am only five weeks post-surgery, and I can tell that what you feel is normal. I felt the same way!!! It's all normal, sweetie.

WOW! I am so glad that I read this post and all of the comments. I am getting banded very soon and I have done a lot of research on the surgery. I thought that I would feel restriction immediately.. Good to know that this will occur after I start getting fills. Thanks All!!
