First fill was a complete failure

I woke up this morning very excited about my first fill. I spoke to my nutritionist and finally my doctor came in to give me the fill. My doctor had this very long and thick needle that was so scary looking but I knew I could handle it because I figure that I've gotten this far, how bad could it be.

So the doctor asked me lie on the the bed and lift my head and feet at the same time while he tries to find my port. He finally, after a few minutes found it and proceeded to insert the needle in the port area but when he went in he would lose it. Well, this went on about 5 times; the insertion of the needle didn't hurt but when he'd miss he'd poke my stomach muscle which is the worst pain ever. He finally gave up after 5 tries and he told me that the reason why he was having trouble is because with the weight I have (the thick stomach fat) I should’ve gotten the gastric bypass and because I opted for the lap band he had purposely place the port further back than usual. So to make a long story short I have been rescheduled on Thursday at radiology so he can see where the port actually is and he can avoid poking the hell out of me. I can’t wait!!!

What a mean thing for him to say. Why would he purposefully put your port farther back? I'm sorry you are having trouble. It shouldn't be that way. I hope it goes better.

That was really uncalled for. I'm sure I'm in the same circumstance and I never got that comment from the doctor or the PA after 3 post-surgery visits (including fills).

He's being lazy and mean. Maybe its just a bad day. I'm having one today so I'll lay off him now. Good luck at radiology; I'm sure it will all work out :-). Take care of yourself!

He is just making excuses for his lack of ability in fills. Since he does not want to be blamed, he is transferring the blame to you. Don't let him get you down, soon you will be thin and he will still be a jerk.:)

Thanks to all for the comments but I am not coming off mad at my doctor because he is really a great doctor and I have never had any problems with him before and still not having problems. My doctor warned me before of this and I am completely aware of the situation. See the thing is, I was over 400 pounds at 5'9 so I was pretty big. During my six months before the surgery I lost 20 pounds and I insisted that my doc give me the lap band and that I didn't want the gastric bypass. So I already knew what the deal was. Just to reiterate to everyone, I am not mad at all, I'm excited for the change that’s all. Thanks for your compassion.

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
