I am a newbie to this site and I am being banded Aug 3, 2010. I have looked up lots of questions I have had, but never posted anything. I would like to talk with people going through this with me and experienced bandsters. My Dr. is Dr. Bruce in Cary, NC. Anyone have any advice for me?

Hi Newbie! I am being banded in 3 days - yikes! I have been working at it since December and jumping through all of the hoops. I'm excited and scared, but most of all, I am ready. I'm on day 8 of the 10 day liquid diet my dr. requires. It's been going ok. How about you?

Welcome to a wonderful site where you can read up on all kinds of issues and opportunities (in the forum), meet and interact with people who will and have gone through this, and even journal about your experiences and get honest feedback.

This site has been tremendously helpful to me throughout the process: insurance to pre-surgery diet to post-surgery pain to questions to suggestions.....

Welcome, and best wishes to you!

Yes, Welcome newbie!!! The best advice I could give you is to follow your doctors orders as best you can for the pre-op to ensure the safest surgery possible. The more you can shrink your liver the easier it is for the surgeon to perform the surgery and then it will be easier on you for recovery. As soon as you enter recovery..start walking as soon as possible to get the gas out of you. Do not rush the healing process. You need to take the time to heal this will help you in the long run and help you have a very successful journey. Bandster Hell is just that and that is the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. Your body is healing and adjusting to having the band in you. You can be very emotional or be on an emotional roller coaster..just depends. Do not worry about losing weight during this time....this is time to focus on healing. You will not have restriction during this time, you do not worry about losing weight until after your first fill (about 6 weeks after surgery). You are too swollen and need to heal first. As you can tell I have mentioned the word heal numerous times..it is that important to heal first and then focus on "how much am I losing". I hope this helps! You have already made the most important decision and that was to get banded!! I wish you the very best on your journey. This site is fantastic and very supportive!! Take care!!

Welcome, Newbie. It is great to have you join us. This is a great site for those of us who have had or are going to have Lap-Band surgery because we are all experiencing the same thing.

My advise is to start working out. If you don't have a gym membership, get one. If you can't afford one, start walking. The more you exercise before the surgery the easier the recovery will be. I started working out 2 months before my surgery about 3 days a week. I was operated on Monday, 6/21. By Wed I was feeling no paid or swelling and getting around just fine. The first 2 days I was sore getting up from a seated position, but that was it. I feel great and people say I look great. Since my surgery I have lost 17.6 lbs. Best of luck and keep checking in.
