Getting Scared!!!

I've been reading and reading about others experiences after lap band surgery and it's kind of scary. I had a c-section 14 yrs ago, not your little bikini cut kind but the kind that goes from your belly button all the way down because my daughter was almost 11 lbs. :tongue2: So, I was thinking this couldnt be too bad, right?? The people I know that's had this surgery have told me they didnt have any trouble at all but I keep reading about all this pain, and nausea and vomiting. My family isnt thrilled I am doing this so if I am sick and in pain I doubt I will have much sympathy like with my c-section. Will somebody please tell me they didnt have any problems either??

I had absolutely no problems!! I did mine over Thanksgiving holiday. I took the Monday off before Thanksgiving for surgery..I had 30 people at my house for Thanksgiving..only 3 people out of the 30 knew I even had surgery. I have a 3 yr old, so no one even noticed that I didn't eat since I was one clear liquids. Never once did I vomit..the day of the surgery..not until after my 2nd fill (the first time I got stuck..which was my own fault..I ate too fast). The pain they are talking about is the gas from the surgery. They "blow" your stomach up to have access to your insides...this leaves the gas in your body. As soon as you possibly can get up and start walking..this will relieve the pain. I never even had to use gas-x..some do, I didn't have to. I was off work from Monday to Monday, other than that no time off at all. I am a belly sleeper..within a couple days I was sleeping on my side, within a week I was sleeping on my stomach. If you made it thru the c-section you will do fine thru this. You use the same common sense procedures. Yes, it will hurt when you get up..scoot to the edge of the bed, take a deep breathe and then stand up..but get up and move--don't just lay there. I hope this helps!!

I also didnt have any pain, other than the gas poskets they talk about. Walking helps that - I was ready to go back to work in 3 days. I was walking around the supermarket (it was a flat surface to walk on, I live near a lot of hills) the day after my surgery, the more you get up & walk around the less pain you will feel from the Gas.

As finallyncontrol said you will only get sick if you eat to fast or dont chew your food well...

Be sure to listen to what ur Dr's tell u and u will be fine. Good Luck!!!! Keep us posted. :)

You know the saying there's two types of people in the world, those who see the glass half full and those who see it half empty. You have to take the posts the same way. There's people who choose to focus on the negative and post their complaints and/or dwell on the slight pain and feel sorry for themselves.

This surgery is not painful, the first couple of days you have "discomfort to pain" from the gas but it's nothing to write home or blog about. I laugh to myself every time I read a post about how awful it is and the woes me posts.

This is THE BEST thing you could ever do for yourself. I would do this surgery again in a heartbeat. The initial wakeup for me was a lil' rough only because my nurse was annoying and I had mine done outpatient; so they were rushing me out the door before I was ready. Once I got home and the twilight wore off I was fine I just needed sleep and to walk the gas off. Within a day and half I was off all pain meds, I never took the nausea meds - didn't need them.

I firmly believe that the bulk of this is mind over matter. I told myself I would be well and I was, no vomiting, no side effects, no pain, etc.. Go into with a positive outlook and you'll have a positive outcome! Best wishes to you!

Hello ebtkm5. I did not have any problems at all. No pain just bruping that's all. I have no scar at all and so far I have been doing ok. Follow the doctor orders and you will be ok.. Take small steps do not rush by eating food to soon. Remember slow and stady wins in the long run.. YOU WILL BE FINE. All the best to you..

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
    • I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
