Baby Food!

I am experimenting to find "eatable" mushie foods for when I have surgery next month. I just tried Gerber baby food (turkey in gravy) -- one bite and it was just awful. Has anyone tried any baby foods that were tasty and worked for you after surgery?

Yuck, no baby food for me! Except for the bananas and Hawaiian Delight which is also fruity. Those are the only 2 I can stand. But there are SO many other option for mushie food. Cottage cheese, oatmeal, tuna, mashed potatoes, eggs, and applesauce just to name a few. It's amazing how one can make a food "mushy." :)

Amen to Maggs79 except the oatmeal and tuna. They both can create more pain than pleasure. Hold off on the oatmeal for a while. The canned tuna or chick packed in water when drained tends to be too dry; mix a 2 oz serving with a tablespoon of non fat/low fat mayo and a tablespoon of pickle relish and it takes on an easier consistency. To Maggs79's point, a small food processor can turn most anything into puree of your imagination. Experimenting is half the fun. BTW: Jello's new chocolate mousse is an answer to prayer. Check out a book you can use through all phases of post-op: Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Patt Levine. Some yummy stuff therein.

Keep your focus on the long term goals and you can overcome the greatest obstacles you imagine.

I bought some baby food a few weeks ago, although I haven't needed to eat it, yet. I did taste it so that when I did need to eat it, I didn't straight gag. I must admit, it was pretty disgusting, felt like I was eating cat food. However, I added a little salt and onion powder and it tasted pretty good. Still weird and mushy, but the flavor was better at least. Hope that helps!

Thank you for responding . . . I just bought a new blender and need to do some experimenting with it. I also bought an ice cube tray to freeze some pureed foods . . . just thought the baby food would be a good option for busy days, but it is not! The cute little jars may come in handy though!

I have a little inexpensive mini-chopper...wasnt even $15!!! does wonder to make everything MUSHY! if the food is stubborn, I add a drop or two of water or chicken broth, depending on what I'm "mushing". I use to make my babies', food rather than buy it, when they were younger. its pretty easy! I did buy a case of Beechnut babyfood at Sam's club! (for myself, after surgery) all the flavors were good! I thought it was yummy!! maybe I'm weird?

    • I’ve used my Xbox for exercise games too and it can be pretty motivating, especially on days when I don’t want to leave the house. Kinect games really do make you move, and after a session with kickboxing or dancing, I always feel like I’ve actually gotten a solid workout. The controller-free setup feels way more natural for workouts than anything I tried on the Wii. Zumba is fun but definitely takes a little time to get the moves right. Lately, when I’m not working out, I spend time trading CS2 skins and finding new guides on this link. There’s a lot of interesting tips if you’re into games outside of fitness too.
