Last Meal Syndrome & The Scale

Anybody else have this prior to surgery?? I have been on the Atkins diet for about a month. I lost 10 pounds on it and totally deprived myself of carbs. Now that i have my surgery date this coming Monday (3.29) i have gone off the diet and can't stop thinking about food! Its incredible. I keep using the excuse that I might not ever get to eat and enjoy this stuff so i want it now! I got on the scale this morning after a weekend of eating and drinking and I was up 2 pounds! Can't keep this up!

Speaking of the scale... I also realized that i was excited to get on the scale when I am dieting and i think i am going to see a lower number. But, this morning, i had to make myself get on it and see the damage i did. I never did that in the past, hence contributing to my weight gain. Getting on that scale, facing the consequences is making me think more before i shove bad food into my mouth. I am reminded of how hard i worked for the past month to get the pre-op weight off and here i am spoiling it in one week! Yes folks, i am able to gain massive amounts of weight in an extremely short amount of time.

I need to shape up and get my head back in the game. Start making better choices and keeping it up. I have also come to realize that after surgery, i will be obsessed with that scale. I will have to try and limit myself to step on it just once a day when I wake up. I could drive myself crazy!

Oooohhh, I can't wait for the big day!!

I totally had last meal syndrome before my surgery, or rather before my preop diet started. I had to do liquid for two weeks prior to my surgery and I was paranoid with what would happen if I cheated, so I didn't.

But before that? Oh nelly. I had ALL my last suppers. I don't regret it really, but I also realize now that it wasn't necessary. You can do everything in moderation later. People told me that before though and I still did it, so no judgments here!!

Hey Jilly... My "last meal" was Saturday night I had a big juicy fat steak with a baked potato...dessert was a M & M's...I think this is perfectly normal for us to feel that we need to have this last meal before we begin this life style change. The next day I started my pure liquid diet and today is my 3rd day and because my DR ordered me not to cheat or he would re-schedule my surgery was enough to scare me not to cheat. 6 more days to go...for both of us! it is exciting....

Yes, we all have our "last supper" but as LoseIt said most of us will later find out that you can tolerate all of the regular foods afterwards just in much small portions. The only thing I haven't tried is steak.

Hi, I had my last supper at TGIF and it was a nice juicy steak, salad, soup and a coke. I had this the night prior to my surgery as the doc told me no eating after 12 midnight--who eats at midnight. I had my meal at 7 to 9 with family and relatives...it was fantastic. So Enjoy while you can because after surgery you will be a different person for sure. But remember that eventually after you settle in with the surgery, you will again get to eat good but in small amounts of course, but that's when you reach your ultimate goal which is why we all have the surgery. I don't regret my surgery, its the best thing that's ever happened to me, I feel energetic, and my self esteem is coming back, plus the fact that as one gets smaller, the opportunity to buy more selections of clothing is out there. Love this. Welcome to the bander's club, you will not regret it. Best wishes.
