To Unfill or NOT to unfill......

Today is four days after my first fill. It was a great fill and I have been ecstatic knowing that I really do have a band in there and it really IS doing it's job now.

But I don't think I'm getting enough nutrients in. Today is supposed to be the last "soft foods" day and tomorrow is eating normal food. HA!!!! Yeah, right!!!

Yesterday I went back to liquids since my cheating on Tuna Helper (I know---a new low!) had me wretching and sliming. Soooo this morning I tried scrambled eggs AGAIN, but had to rush to the bathroom to throw up.

I've heard some of you say that the morning's your band is tight....and that really is the only time I've been trying soft foods yesterday or today---both times to my ruin.

I think I need to call my doctor's office for an unfill....but PLEASE NOT ALOT!!! That is what I'm SO scared of. Finally after weeks, this is working SOOO good, TOO good, actually, but I know what restriction feels like. And I don't want to backslide.

But I am now too tired to work out. I know it's just not getting enough calories---I'm getting enough water!!

So that's not good.( I DON'T WANT AN UNFILL!!! I just want to be able to keep 1/4 cup of food down.

I've read some people on here stay on liquids for a week....could I try that and THEN go if I still can't handle soft foods??

My doctor wants me to be on liquids for two full weeks after a fill. Last time I did liquids for a week then the second week added apple sauce, pudding etc. I am starved (on liquids as we speak) but I try to do what he tells me to do. I If you are so "tight" that you can't keep anything down, that is dangerous. My doc said it can land me in the ER. He took one cc out of my band before I even left Monday because he tried three and though I swallowed, you could see the liquid sitting in the pouch. It was not going thru. He took one cc out and you could see a small thin line of liquids moving thru. thats what you want. If you end up really sick from not being able to eat you will be in a mess. God bless and good luck.

Liquids go down with NO problem...apple sauce, pudding, milkshakes go down slow..but fine.

Try a hot liquid at lunchtime and then try something you haven't been able to get down (and chew like there's no tomorrow). If that doesn't work, give your doc a call immediately. Tomorrow's Friday and you don't want to end up in the ER over the weekend. Sometimes people get a big difference with only .5cc's out. I was very tight after this last fill (was wondering if I was going to need an unfill and was worried I'd tighten up even more as some do after a week) and was keeping a close eye on things. I found I definitely get tighter after a PB and have to go back to liquids for a meal or two, which may be the case with you (just be honest and tell the doc what happened and he may say to try liquids for a day or two). Now, I'm super tight when I get up in the morning and get a hurt feeling even with black coffee if I drink too fast, but after one cup of coffee I can get my loose oatmeal with protein powder down if I eat slowly...too fast and it hurts. I haven't tried my eggs yet at breakfast...eggs is actually one of the items some can't tolerate as they're rubbery and tend to ball up together and don't break down anymore in your pouch. By lunchtime I can tell I've loosened up and can eat grilled chicken even as long as I have some kind of sauce to dip it in. Give a hot liquid a try before eating and see what happens. Keep us posted and good luck! -BG

Thanks, BG!!! I will try the hot liquids before lunch! And good to know about the eggs....you're prob'ly right, they ARE rubbery. I've got some soup for lunch to eat so that should go down good. I'm going to give my DR a call when I'm on my lunch break and see what he has to say.

I don't eat real eggs at all anymore for the very reasons you all have mentioned above. I tried Egg Beaters - but that white stuff didn't appeal to me and the lack of color made it not palatable for me. I found a product called "Better 'N Eggs" which is in the same part of the grocery store and looks like eggs...tastes like eggs and is actually made from real eggs. I take a 1 cup container, spray the inside with Pam (or spray butter if I'm out of Pam) add a half cup of Better 'N Eggs and a splash of Fat Free Lactaid and a shake or two of salt free seasoning. I take that to work and nuke it between a half hour and an hour after I get there. I use my fork to break it up and smoosh it until there are no big pieces. I sometimes cut up baby bella mushrooms or onions and peppers real-l-l-l-ly tiny and add to my egg mixture before nuking for a different flavor/consistency.

(I do drink my coffee on the way to work as I have at least a half hour drive.)

I then enjoy my breakfast!

Good Luck!!

Hi,

I gave up the scrambled eggs too. Yuck!! I can handle it boiled, the white without the yellow that is.

As for tight, I notice that I'm tighter for lunch than any other meal of the day. I'm kinda strange I guess.

Take care.

I had a fill under fluroscopy today. Everything seemed fine until I tried "eating". Since I am on liquids, I first tried a cup of hot tea. I felt uncomfortable right away and didn't finish it. Then late this afternoon I tried a Snapple Diet Ice Tea and am struggling getting it down. It isn't coming up, just not going down easily. I think I will call the doctor's office tomorrow morning. Has anyone had this problem?

Yes, Tina....call your DR. I didn't have any problems with liquids but even mushies are giving me fits right now...so better catch it sooner than later.

I called at 5 but got the answering service. I will call first thing in the morning. I feel hungry.....

Thanks for your advice.

I know how frustrating it is when the food won't stay down, Jazzymom. Once I straighten out my latest problem , I think I might contact the nutritionist associated with the practice to see if she has any ideas. I'll let you know....

I went to the doctor on Friday and had 1/2 cc removed. I am all better. Afterwards, I remembered why I might have been affected by this fill. I went to the doctor last week and asked to be unfilled slightly so I could do a colonoscopy prep on Monday. I decided to do the osmoprep, which I highly recommend. But I needed to take 20 large pills in one hour and then 12 in the morning. The prep was much better than the liquid stuff they make you drink. However, I did the prep on Monday, had the colonoscopy on Tuesday and went to be filled on Thursday. I believe my stomach might have been irritated by the prep and therefore, wasn't happy to have been filled. I will go back in a month to be filled a little more. What a relief!
