Well lets see... I am triing to really keep my head up and now after doing extended research I have found out that You have to have lots of things wrong with you to get this surgery. First 5 yrs of being fat... BING.... Sleep apnea... have that.... restless leg syndrome... knees bad... depressed... ummm am I missing anything eles? I was told by my insurance company that My doc has to add these things to the referral. Soooo... I have to back track all these things so I kn ow I have all my ducks in a row and now they are telling me that I may have to go through 6 month diet. Okay I know this is not a quick fix diet but I also know I need to keep working on myself for example working out and I guess eating pre chewed food so I dont choke. and all... to make sure I am not one of those folks that think this is a quick fix and I can get it taken out whenever. ;) arrrrrrrrr..... I know its a comiment for life more or less. I need the help cause I can eat myself crazy thats the point of it right? If I can do a diet and stick with it without help (for 6 months) than I dont need the surgery.... Hey I can stick to the diet but how much I eat of the diet food is what I need help with... I dont eat carbs I dont eat suger (use splenda) I love vegs and fruits. Not a drinker. So tell me am I in the wrong mind frame? Is this the right thing to do or should I just give up and start my antidepressants again so I can look at myself in the mirror?:P

Whether you end up with the surgery or some other means to get your weight under control, you sound at least partly motivated for the proper reasons. Believe me, 6 months sounds like forever when you're in the position you're in. I was delayed more than once but perservered. My surgery was last December. Today, 7 months and 87 pounds later, I'm glad I followed through. Please stop calling this a "diet" and begin calling it a "lifestyle". Please don't think the band will force you to eat properly. That's something you have to do yourself. And you stated "a commitment for life more or less"!!! What??? It's a commitment for life...period. There's no "more or less" about it! Part of the whole process you're experiencing will indicate how determined you are to make a change in your health. If you get on track, the best advice I can give you is to follow the program perfectly. It's like the adage "Practice makes perfect" That's is so wrong! "PERFECT practice makes perfect" and nothing else. In other words, if you're told by the doctor or the nutritionist to stay on a lquiid diet for a week or 10 days, DO IT! Work you way back into "real food" on the schedule they give you and no sooner. I did it but I can't really remember going through the process. It's not even a memory that I can pull back into my mind. I did it, it's over and now I'm changing my life-style to follow through for MYSELF. And don't fail to get as many fills as necessary to get you to the point of satiation with the well balanced diet that's prescribed. I feel 50,000% better, no more high blood pressure or sleep apnea. I can tie my shoes!! And I'm no longer wondering what day I'll be having my inevitable heart attack. Instead, I wondering how many granchildren or great grandchildren I'll get to meet!

Many of us can and have stuck to a diet for six months or more...the difference is can you keep the weight off? Most of us gained it back and more and that's where the band helps you! I think if the AD made you fell better you should probably be taking it again to help you make this decision and to function well throughout the process...its long and there's a lot of BS and delays to deal with. Good luck whatever you decide...I self payed a big check and I would do it again tomorrow! PS: Sugar is way better for you than Splenda...( a natural plant vs. toxic waste)
