Hello! My name is Beth, I will be 46 in March, and I have been married for 17 years and mom to 9 1/2 year old twins. I have worked for the same company 14 years now, in IT. I have tried every diet under the sun and have never been able to stick with it more than a few months. My primary doctor finally told me last year I should consider the surgery. I will say I never ever considered the surgery until she told me to at least go talk to a bariatric doctor about it. I saw the doctor in October, but I was on hubby's insurance at the time and they would not pay a cent. I had a coworker check with my company's insurance and learned they would pay half, which is certainly better than nothing! Anyway, I was just waiting for the new year to begin so I could start the process. Tomorrow I will call the bariatric surgeon's office and get going- he told me I would have to have some tests done prior so the sooner the better. I am really hoping this will help eradicate my sleep apnea... I had apnea surgery about 4 years ago (they cut my uvula, tonsils, and palate, plus fixed my deviated septum and put a screw in my jaw to hold my tongue down)- recovery for that was miserable and only made my apnea improve a bit (doc told me weight loss should get rid of it all together). I also have a miserable case of GERD and the lowest HDLs my cardio doc has ever seen (definitely NOT something to be proud of). Praying those will resolve as well. I am grateful I at least do not have diabetes, but have been told if I keep on this way, that is just a matter of time. I have to admit I am scared, especially after reading the big book- I appreciate the honesty, but it does make me more nervous. Anyway, I am looking forward to reading and contributing to the community :)
