I was initially banded in Sept 2008. After Several issues along the way including a port revision in Dec 2008, I decided it was time to get the band out. I dealt with all the issues of food reflux, acid reflux, dysphagia, intolerance of fills all while dealing with a broken foot then 2 pregnancies. It was decided it was finally time to get it out. At one point I even appealed my insurance to have a revision surgery only to be turned down after taking it all the away to the State level only to be denied. In hindsight it wasn't the right time, I ended up being 3 months pregnant by the time I got the final decision. Brings me to July 2016 when I was looking at getting onto my husbands insurance to try to get it covered. I stumbled upon the newly revised Priority Health policy that makes it hopeful they will cover a 2nd surgery after all. I have done my newest consult after Band removal and my surgeons office should be submitting for approval this week. My surgeon is "hopeful" that it will be covered this time and the plan is to for the BPD w/ DS. So I am trying to not go stir crazy while I wait. If all is approved I would be having surgery in the beginning of Dec of this year, as it will be 3 months since my Lap Band removal.
I had my 3 month follow up on 03/31/17 at the office following BPD w/ DS. I am down 76 pounds since surgery. They stopped my prevacid and over the last 10 days I have been having issues with heartburn and my iron binding capacity is just above me needing iron infusions. I will be keeping on an eye on my fatigue levels for that reason to get ahead of that before it gets to be a problem. Loving life after DS! Looking forward to an fun and active summer with my family.
