4 days post op hungry and pains

I've called my nutritionist to see if I can start full liquids, I am hungry all the time now. Also when I swallow liquids I get a tight sensation in my tummy and some pain. I have also been burping with pain, and I do drink very slow. Is this all normal?? Also I have no had a bowel movement in 6 days... I'm starting to worry. I also wonder is the pain I am feeling is because I got a cold.

Although I have not been banded yet, I think that six days without a bowel movement would be enough to make me call my doctor. They may tell you it is normal (or not), but either way it will ease your mind. With the weekend coming, I would probably call today.

Good luck! I hope you feel better!

I, too, was starving at 4 days post-op. I started Protein Shakes on the 5th day.

The no bowel movement was normal for me. Having been on a liquid diet for two weeks and then basically not eating for 6 days (surgery day plus 5 days of clear liquids), I didn't have one for a while. No worries - it came back. As diarrhea. Until I started full liquids (soups, pudding, yogurt). My system is still regulating itself, as I have lots of painful gas. The burping also sounds normal.

The only thing I didn't have that you mentioned was the tightness/pain when swallowing. I might call about that.

thanks for the replies. I think I ate 3oz instead of 2 of pudding for lunch so I'm guessing that is where the pain is coming from.

More then likely the pain is actually from the gas that is still in your system. It takes a good week for it to all be gone. You are hungry because you aren't getting the protien that you need to keep you full. Ask your doctor if you can start taking the Protein Shakes which you really should be taking 3 times a day.

As for the bowel movement it's normal. You aren't really eating anything so there isn't much to get rid of. Even now on solids I don't really go for 3-4 days at a time. It's simply because we aren't eating alot. You can get some benefiber and put that in your liquids. It dissolves totally.

By the way CONGRATULATIONS!!!
