I was banded on Thursday. Doing OK...generally feeling better each day. Today was the first day that I was able to get down my whole protein shake and a popsicle. About 3 hours later, I started feeling extreme pain in my stomach. I had to leave to get my daughter from after school care and it takes me 30 minutes. Sweating, severe pain, painful burbs and gas. By the time i got to th edriveway, I was vomiting into a cup I had in the truck! About 5 times, nothing but bubbles and saliva because I havent eaten anything since last tuesday. I feel like I did the day after surgery!! I came home and took my meds, AGAIN! Is this normal?

I don't understand how I upset anything if everything is liquid going in...

If I were you, I would stay on clear liquids tonight, as long as you can tolerate them, and call the doctor in the morning. If you're vomiting tonight, I would call now. If you got a fill during surgery, the doctor might want to remove it to give you some relief. You probably still have swelling from surgery, but to be on the safe side, I'd give the doctor a call to let him know exactly what's going on.

I was feeling great after being banded 12/31/09, then four days later I started to feel nausea, couldnt sit up, and started to retch and having dry heaving. I have never felt so sick in my life. I hadnt drank anything i wasnt supposed to, or too much of it, as all of my liquids were premade and measured first thing in the morning, but I stayed sick until that evening. I am not sure what caused it, but the Doctor's office called in a stronger nausea medicine for me. my other option was to go to the office and get the fluid removed. I am glad I chose the prescription instead!

I was banded 12/31/09 as well and started vomiting after my first drink of water. Stronger anti nausea meds were prescribed for me as well but they didn't work and I had to be hospitalized and given fluids through an IV as I was dehydrating so my surgeon removed the primer fluid from my band. According to my surgeon, some people just swell more than others--but even he was surprised by my initial reaction as he'd only ever had one other patient react to violently. It really is a vicious circle though when you vomit because swelling becomes more and more intense because of the acid from your stomach. Even after the unfill swallowing was still very slow going! We watched my barium swallow together and he was astounded at how slowly the liquid would pass. That was Jan 4 and while I could swallow there was still discomfort. It is now Jan. 6 and I am finally keeping liquids down comfortably. I think the most important thing is for anyone to know who is vomiting is that they need to contact their surgeon as soon as possible. The pain I felt was horrible!!

I was banded on 12/30 and was feeling pretty good, until Monday evening when I was hit with horrible nausea too. I can't get comfortable for the life of me (sitting/laying/standing). And I get this strange sensation in my body, as if I'm going to burp or hiccup, but I don't. I saw my doctor yesterday and he prescribed some meds, but after taking a dose, I ended up getting home and having two horrible dry heaving episodes (plus, spitting up so much saliva it was unreal).

This evening he had me come to the hospital for an IV and some much stronger anti-nausea meds. To be honest, the meds are not working. I still feel nauseated and have this pain in my chest (sorta in between my breasts but a bit lower) - not a gas pain either. Now I'm starting to worry that this will be permanent. The pain and nausea are not letting up and the fact that they started days after the surgery sorta freaks me out. :smile2:

Btw, I've been so sick, I haven't logged on here in a few days. I'm so grateful to come here tonight and find this thread. I'm not happy anyone's in pain, but it's nice to know I'm not crazy. I hope we all get some relief soon.

Anti nausea meds didn't help me at all. Protonics did though as they decreased the amount of acid in my stomach making the vomiting and reflux less destructive to my already hurting body. Ask your doctor what size band s/he used. My surgeon told me the only other time he'd had a patient have the problem I was having he'd used a smaller band on them and, literally, the band didn't fit them. We were relieved having removed the majority of the primer fluid worked on me as I had the largest sized band made. I know exactly what you are describing though. It's horrible. I'm happy with my band now, but those first 4 days were Hell.
