Post Op GERD need feedback

Hey Y'all:

I was just banded on Tuesday. I started on my clear liquid diet yesterday, and noticed pretty bad reflux and general stomach discomfort. As an RN I know this will go away, but, I would just like re-assurance others have been through this.

Talk to your doctor about it right away. My reflux was a result of being too tight (too much fill). Does your band have anything in it yet? This site is wonderful for "support" but remember that no one with true medical knowledge monitors this site. Always go back to your doctor for concerns.

I am an RN also and was not always honest about the difficulty I was having because I didn't want an unfil and risk stalling my weight loss. In hindsight, if I had gone with a little lesser fill I would have been better off. good luck.

I'm about 6 days post op and initially, my band was way too tight for me which caused bad reflex and constant 'gurgling' (even though I was on clear liquids). I contacted the clinic and told them that drinking was uncomfortable and they gave me an unfill straight away - immediate relief.

My surgeon says you should be able to drink very comfortably, if not - then it's too tight. Funnily enough the band has actually reduced my reflux which was pretty bad prior.

I was banded on Wednesday. My surgeon does not fill the band on OR date. He fills for the first time 6 weeks postop. I have had TERRIBLE GERD & gas pain. I would recommend talking to your surgeon. I did--mine recommended something over the counter.
