Timeframe from seminar(or 1st appt) to surgery?

Recommended Posts

Everyone seems to be super excited when they get their surgery date. My question is: "seminar to surgery date":...how long am I looking at??? I am not asking for how long my wait will/might actually be:smile2:. But if it goes good or bad (insurance, psych eval ect.)..just wanting you all to throw your experiences (time frames) at me...thanx

The place I am thinking of going says if you get everything in right away surgery should be within 8 weeks unless there are insurance issues.

Mine was 1 month. Many are longer. Some are shorter.

I began researching the surgery quite some time ago. I attended a seminar 7/14, had appt. with surgeon 7/31. Would have been sooner if he hadn't taken a vacation...how rude . Did pre-op testing 8/3. Could have had surgery 8/20 but had a conflict. Now I'm scheduled for the end of the month. I'm self-pay and that always moves more quickly if you so desire. I was able to choose when surgery would work best for me. Good luck!!

I started researching the procedure in late-April/May timeframe. I had my first one-on-one session on June 17th (I opted not to do the group session) and I just had my surgery today. Thats 50 days from first session til now. Its important to know that I paid for the procedure out of pocket--my insurance would not cover it.

My consult/psych eval was on 8/8/2008, I was also scheduled that day for surgery 10/6/2009. I was self pay, so that helped things out alot, dealing with insurance will take longer. You doc may be able to help expidite the insurance process.

Mine has been a long time, but I think thats more to do with my surgeon being in high demand, and always booked out at least 2 months in advance for anything. I first called about the seminar in January, but couldn't get into one for 3 months.

From the date of the seminar to the surgery (on the 31st) has been about 6 months. Only about 2-3 months of that has been meeting requirements for the surgery though, the rest has simply been waiting for available appointments. I'm impatient by nature, so I think the waiting has been the hardest part of all this so far.

So 9 months in total between the day I called for the seminar, to the date of the surgery.

I started this process in Dec of 08 with my PCP. I saw the surgeon for the first time Feb 09. He then gave me a battery of things he wanted me to do...

blood work

chest x-ray

doppler study of legs and abdomen

gyno

cardio

pulmonology

sleep study

pft

nutritionist

& 6 months worth of weights from PCP (so monthly visits with the PCP)

I am going back for my pre-op consult with the surgeon on Wednesday the 12th... and then they will submit it to insurance...

it normally takes about 2 weeks to get the results back... so hopefully im looking at the end of august!

so for me it took about 9months

I was self pay so it didn't take that long:

Seminar: July 21 '09

Consult appts: July 29th '09

Surgery: August 6th '09

So just a little over 2 weeks from start to finish.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
