When your body is metabolizing fat for energy, there is a by-product called ketones. The state is called ketosis. Many people who follow a low-carb diet, where they deprive their body of carbohydrates and force the conversion of stored fat for energy, are very familiar with the breath issue that is present.

Get some sugar-free mints and remind yourself "My body is converting fat for its energy use. This bad breath means I am losing weight."
