Day One

Just got banded yesterday, the 20th. Also had hiatal hernia repair. I'm feeling constipated; my practice told me to use liquid Colace. Liquid colace must be taken with juice or milk, say the instructions. But it's taking me forever to sip it down. The practice also told me I should drink two protein shakes a day, but to mix them with milk to dethicken them. So now I've had half a shake with milk and the idea that I should have three more glasses of it before bed seems totally impossible! Any advice?

Different surgeons give different post-op instructions. It is normal to have no appetite for the first few days or first week. Just do the best you can at getting the Protein drinks down. Also, be sure to keep sipping Water.

My post op instructions were Clear liquids only for the first 2 weeks. My main source of protein was from Isopure which I gagged on. Perhaps you need to try a different Protein Drink. I really like the Matrix 5 powder. Muscle milk is better tasting then some other Protein Drinks perhaps you could try them. Just be sure you don't dehydrate.

Hope I helped you.

Hi:

Mineral oil may help with the constipation, and you only need to take a spoonful or two. I had issues with constipation too. Things will work themselves out! Good luck. I hope you love your band like I love mine.
