Has this happened to anyone else? The surgeon and his staff seem to think it wasn't that big of a deal and even that it was common.

My Doctor's nurse said it is a self healing injury, and that sometimes weird things like that just happen.

Has anyone had an experience like this?

omg ! How are you feeling, are you having difficulties because of this. A lung collapsing is a serious thing, I do not think that it is normal for that to happen. I hope your recovery goes well. keep your head up.

I think this is different but I do remember the tech in the hospital telling me to breathe into the spirometer and being worried that my oxygen level was low after surgery. He said that the lungs "become" collasped during surgery and we need to fill them back up asap to avoid pneumonia.
