Warning...it's a #2 problem

Recommended Posts

Recently banded in April, and just wondering if anyone has had any problems with frequent diarrhea? I usually have 2 bouts a day of it and it's usually 15 to 30 minutes after eating. When I'm at home, it's not a problem, but when you're out and about, well you know.

It can happen after Protein Shakes (for breakfast), and it will even happen if I have shredded chicken and a few bite of cottage cheese.

My stomach just sounds like it's turning over and then I know I need to get to the bathroom quick! Anyone else have an issue similar to this? Any suggestions? I know increase the Fiber, but is this common? :cursing:

I had diarrhea when I was on liquids only but as soon as I moved on to mushies (and had lots of fiber rich foods like refried beans) it stopped. It's "normal" in a way, because anytime you put something in the top it moves things along the whole route, but it isn't "normal" to have to have a bowel movement every time you ingest anything, as you know. Sounds like your digestive system is just REALLY moving things along! If I were you I'd give a quick call to my surgeon. S/He may say more fiber but he may have a different approach. :cursing:

Make sure you stay hydrated!

Like Monkey, I had loose BMs while on the liquid diet but as soon as I moved to mushy food that was the end of that. I now go less often (less eaten, less to get rid of) than pre-surgery. I do take a fiber supplement every day (a heaping tablespoon of Benefiber every morning), but I don't know if that has anything to with anything.

Wow lucky you. Usually it's the opposite.

I have had the opposite problems, I have trouble going at all and when I do it's very hard to get it to pass on through. I've tried fiber with no luck. I haven't tried stool softeners yet because I don't want to end up on the other end and have diahrrea. So any ideas would be great.

Gus-Gus you should ask your surgeon. You may not be getting enough Fiber (and you have to drink a lot of Water with it or it will have the opposite effect) or you may need a stool softener. A stool softener shouldn't give you diarrhea, but ask your surgeon for advice! :cursing:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
