Having a hard time deciding between Realize and Lap Band

Recommended Posts

Which one should I choose? My doctor said that they are both the same but that the other doctor in the office doesn't like the realize bands because he has had more problems with them.

What do you guys think? It would nice to have the tools but I just want to darn thing to last so I really don't want to use that as a determining factor, ya know?

How many CC's does the lap hold and how many does Realize hold. DOes it make a difference?

Thanks!

I have the Lapband AP, and it is also 14cc, but not all of them are. From what I understand the size is determined by your anatomy when the surgery is performed.

From what I have read, it seems the primary difference in the bands is how the inner cuff is inflated. I think one is continiuous and the other is sectional. I don't know if that helps you much. That is about all I know. I would look them both up on the internet where you can get a description of each, plus pictures or diagrams, and maybe that will help you decide. I am happy with my AP, but I a haven't had a Realize band, so I can only speak from my experience. If you use the band as a tool to restrict portions, and you exercise, make a committment to eat healthy, go to group support, and read all you can about how to work with the band, you can likely be equally successful with either one.

Lap Band AP comes in 10cc and 14cc. I believe the Realize Band comes in 9ccs but I'm not positive about that. They work pretty much the same. The Lap Band AP has a different structure to the part that inflates with saline so that the whole surface of it does not make contact with your stomach...supposed to help eliminate the risk of erosion. Pretty much everybody I've talked to has the Lap Band AP but it has been around for several more years than the Realize band. I seriously doubt that having one versus the other will make a whole lot of difference. As for the 2 sizes of the Lap Band band, I believe the surgeon makes that decision based on your stomach.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
