I've never really had surgery. I got my tubes tied and I'm wondering what to compare the pain too... What are your thoughts?

I've only had the Lap-Band and gall bladder removal, so I can't compare Lap-Band to the other two, but I'd say mine was a little bit more uncomfortable than gall bladder surgery. That said, my gall bladder surgery was a breeze, and I was on vacation in Mexico less than a week after surgery.

I was in the hospital for one day with Lap-Band surgery; and though I didn't feel bad after going home, like in major pain, I did feel weak and a bit woozy here and there for up to a week. Some days were good and other days were not good, but not in a pain sort of way. I also didn't have the gas pains in my shoulder that many people complain of. I only took my pain meds for the first couple of days, and that was mainly at night because I was afraid of hurting in my sleep.

Lapband was my 1st major surgery since I had my tonsils removed when I was 4. I was uncomfortable for about 3 days and I finally started to feel better after about 5 days. I had surgery on Wednesday by Monday I was back to work and by Monday night I was driving again. It's just those 1st initial days that you feel uncomfortable.

I've only had lap band (twice) and gall bladder (once!) LOL

None of them were bad at all. I have honest to goodness had dental procedures that hurt worse and for a longer period of time.

I didn't answer your poll because "it was a breeze" wasn't an option!

My wife had her tubes tied and it was done laproscopically (sp) The procedures seem pretty similar, except there is one bigger incision during the lapband.

My gall bladder was infected so for me that was the worst. Three months of recovery, first time in hospital was a week but when they finely took it out it was overnight. Lap band was over night, a couple of days of uncomfortable and I was good as new. Yup, can't compair the two for me!

I can't compare. I had gallbladder surgery back when they cut you from your sternum to your appendix, and was in the hospital for 10 days and out of work for 6 weeks. And I had my tubes tied when they repaired an incisional hernia in my C-section scar and released adhesions, so again an open surgical procedure.

OMG Parrothead, that is awful. I can't imagine that. My gall bladder was terrible infected yet they could still do the little bitty insecsions. Then the infection was trying to come out where he cut, so in his office on the table he just decides to cut me open in a couple more places to let it drain! My band was soooo easy.

I have had laproscopic strilisation and lapband. In my instance they were very similar in pain/recovery. I took me about 6 days each time to feel okay.

Parrothead probably had her gall bladder taken out before they could do it laproscopically. That's how they used to do it probably 10 years ago, the way she had it done.

I had my gallbladder removed over 25 years ago and was not done laproscopically but with a large cut and over 25 staples and a couple of drainage tubes hanging out, I was pregnant at the time so I would have to say compared to Lapband it was the worse, I did have my tubes tied after a C-section and had a lot of cramping aftewards. The biggest problem with with the Lapband was the gas pains in my back and under my ribs these lasted for almost 2 weeks no matter what I did to get rid of it. I am now 3.5 weeks post op and feel great, I was only in the hospital for a 1/2 the day for my Lapband and I also had an Endometrial Asblation done at the same time so overall I think I did good .
