It is 8 days til my surgery and I am getting very nervous. How bad is the pain the first few hours after and next day after surgery:crying:

oh it isn't that bad. i only experienced some pain in my shoulder from the inflation gas. you feel a little groggy after the surgery and then you will probably sleep on your back for a week or so and then poof ,you are pretty much back to normal. it is a good pain, knowing it is short term and your weightloss will be long term. besides, your doc should give you some great pain meds, use them.

It varies. I had almost none. In recovery they were going to give me 2 mg of morphine and i just took one...rejected the pain pump. rejected the "Q ball" (or whatever it is) for pain I took the prescription pain med twice, on day 2. That's it. No big deal for me

Aaahhhh, I remember the anxiety about the whole thing.

Honestly, you'll have some pain and then tenderness at the incisions, some pain from the gas and a feeling of fatigue for the first 36 hours or so. All of that will lessen with each passing day.

It's VERY important to follow your doctor's instructions to the letter, take your pain meds if you need them (your body needs to heal - surgery is invasive - and fighting the pain takes too much out of you), and remember to walk, walk, walk!!! This will help dispell the gas and your recovery will move along more quickly.

I assure you that after 48 hours, you'll be feeling a whole lot better!! My surgery was on Friday morning. Went back to my daughter's that afternoon and slept for about two hours. Had some broth for dinner. Slept fine all night and just relaxed (and walked) at her place the next day. The following day (Sunday), I drove myself home (3 1/2 hours). All that am I'm 52!!!! Sooo, honey, if I can do it, you'll be just fine.

It kind of depends on you I think! I've read lots of varying opinions on this. For me, I didn't feel crap until about 4 hours after surgery when I had to get up and walk the first time. Even then, the only thing that hurt was actually getting in/out of bed, and it wasn't that bad! I hardly hurt at all in the hospital, but my pain medicine didn't make me feel loopy/groggy/gross so any time I started to hurt, I went ahead and asked for a little. May as well stay comfy.

Now that I am home (I had surgery on Monday morning, came home Tuesday)... Wednesday was definitely the hardest day for me. I have LOTS of gas but it is not in my shoulder, it's smack dab in the middle of my chest.

I will get gas, try to burp to make it feel better, and then feel like I need to throw up instead. If I press my fingers into my chest, it makes it feel better. The more I walk the better I feel. I haven't taken much of my prescribed pain meds but I have taken a little. It has helped and it doesn't make me feel "gross" so I'm game for it for now.

I just woke up (it's like 2:20am) and I feel better than I have since surgery. Yesterday I was almost regretting the band because I felt so crappy! I think it just depends on each individual. Just know that the pain will go away and it'll be worth it! :cursing:

Just try to remember to ask for the pain meds before the pain get to great. It is better to ask early than later, the pain I had would start slowly then hit a point and jump so I learned to ask early but I admit that I am a wimp when it comes to pain (as most guys are but don't admit). And WALK, WALK, and WALK. The sooner you get up and walk the better you will feel. Good luck!!!

I had very little pain, with exception of incision where the port was placed. I agree with walking as much as possible, helps dissipate the gas quicker.

I had the surgery yesterday and it was a piece of cake. The most uncomfortable spot is where they put the port in, I assume because the incision there is slightly larger. Make sure you get it up and walk as soon as you can so that you will not get the gas pains. Just stay positive and keep your eye on the prize ( a skinny you!!)

I had pain, but it was hunger pain ironically enough. LOL.

In all honesty, I have had dental procedures that were more painful than this surgery! Getting up the first time to walk was pretty uncomfortable, but the more you do it, the better you feel. Take your pain meds as prescribed. Don't try to tough it out, your body needs to heal, and the meds are part of that. You will do great!! Honestly the anxiety before the surgery is worse than the pain after surgery!! Hugs,

For me, and I know everyone is different, I really had no pain at all. I left the surgery center feeling great, and never took the pain meds that were prescribed. I had slight discomfort from the gas on the second night following my surgery and walked and took the gas-x. This surgery was a walk in the park for me. Good Luck!

I had my surgery on Tuesday, and id say my pain scale is anywhere between 3-6.. not too bad, the worst is standing up from a siting or laying position.

Dont try to tough out the medication, they were rx to you for a reason! They will prob make you tired.

Oh yeah and WALK WALK WALK, i love walking. My gas has been very limited. I only get it after sitting, but when i walk it goes away.
