I'm going in for my lap-band tomorrow and am wondering if anyone has any advice as to what I should bring with me to the hospital? I've read post that people are taking GasX after the surgery, is this something they give you or something you bought before hand?

I didn't need GasX or anything. The discomfort from the air will go away in time.

Wear sweats or elastic waist clothing that's comfy. Put a fresh pair on and just wear them home.

Toothbrush/toothpaste

deo

change of undies

If you are inpatient then bring a slew of stuff like pjs, slippers, etc.

One thing I wish I had thought of was a "button" down shirt. I had brought a t-shirt and it was a little uncomfortable lifting arms over head adn it was tight from all the gas in my belly

I dont know anyone who stayed overnite, so I'll tell you what I brought with me. Chapstick for your very dry lips after surgery and a pillow for the seatbelt in your car, so it wont irritate your incisions. Bring elastic waist pants and a big tshirt. That was it. I was in recovery very groggy, so I couldnt read. I was picked up that night from the hopsital and went home. Good luck

I agree with the stuff for your lips (but I use softlips, not chapstick LOL) And I love t-shirts and used those. And the pillow.

You might want to see if you can get your pain med prescription today and get it filled now.

And shoes that are easy off/easy on so you don't have to bend and tie them.

Gas X is for gas and some people swear by it but I think honestly that's a placebo effect. The gas pain is from gas pumped into your abdominal cavity to "spread" out your organs and make surgery easier. Gas X doesn't even begin to touch that type of gas. Most surgeons try to remove as much of it as they can before closing you up so you may or may not have much discomfort from it. I didn't. I was sore from surgery but not too bad.

Can I ask a somewhat gross question about post op lapband needs...Since you are sore from Surgery.. how do you wipe after using the restroom? I think I saw someone suggestbuying some tongs to hold the TP and extend their reach. Has anyone else felt a need to do this?

I just got my call from the hospital with my surgery time, 1:15 tomorrow, the butterflies are starting to kick in!

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to wear comfy clothes and make sure I have my chapstick on me! :mad2: Button down shirt is a good thought too. I'll have to call my doctor and see about getting my prescriptions filled today too, another good idea. What do they give you for prescriptions?

I wasn't that sore. And honestly I'd think trying to use tongs etc would be worse than just "doing it". It is GOOD for you to bend a move a little (not do aerobics or something, but move) because that way internally you're less likely to get adhesions. You'll have pain meds at home...

I stayed overnight on Mon. Button down shirt, loose pull on pants, (tummy tender), ROBE you must walk in the gown and the rooms can be chilly while you are sitting up. I didn't get to take my book out, usual tolietries.

If you wear glasses and want them in recovery, bring a hard case, so they don't get crushed. I wore roomy sweats and a t-shirt in, and put them back on to leave (day surgery for me). I also wore slip-on shoes. I left rings and watch at home. Since I was only there for the day and didn't have far to travel, I didn't need anything else.
