Lap Band, Sept 08..??

Hi there, i am from Perth Australia, and i had Lapband done in Sept 08. To date i have only lost around 12 kilos?? I have had 3 fills, and to be honest, i am not entirely happy with this result? Does anyone have similar experience? Does it take a while to work? I started at 110kilos, now at 98kilos, but expected to have had a much greater loss than this til now?? Would love some encouragement?

Hi there...I also had surgery in Sept 08...I lost 24 pounds for the surgery, but have gained 20 back,,,I am frustrated b/c I don't feel like I have had anything done!!

Hi amanda. I am mathmatically challenged, so maybe you can help me. How many pounds is 12 kilos? I got my band on September 19, 2008. I am so sorry that you, and fatmommyslim, are not having the results that you were hoping for. With your 3 fills, do you have any restriction? Many times I don't think real good weight loss begins until you have real good restriction. I hope that things get better for you both - if I can do anything to help, please let me know. I'm certainly no expert, but I am a good listener. Take care!! Becky

I was also banded in September and its been a slow loss. I've lost about 25 pounds now in 5 months. Yes, I wish it was more BUT I knew going into this that 1) the loss is supposed to be like 1-2 lbs/week and not tons like gastric bypass and 2) it may take a few fills to feel good restriction. Normally I'd be very upset but I figure my weight's going down and I don't care how slow. I feel better...don't feel like I'm starving all the time and can't get enough to eat. There's no more binge/starve cycle and I'm healthier for it.

Keep the faith. You're doing great.

I don't feel like I have gotten true restriction. I also think that ny binge eating has gotten the best of me.... I am still hungry most of the time...I am going to get a fill next Tuesday and hope that this will be the one!

Amanda & fatmommy, hang in there... I'm a bit ahead of you and realize that my loss numbers are bigger, but I had so very much to lose and I think it comes off a bit faster at first... But one thing I have learned is that you have to keep trusting that the band is your tool and it will work... The "devil" is tryng to get you to loose faith and give up... Don't do it!!!! 25 pounds is still a loss and it will get better.. As your journey progresses you will hit these darn plateaus, too.. They are miserable and generally you have to do something off the norm to get moving again. I lose a few pounds and then stall for 2-3 weeks and then go again.. It's like the "tortoise and the hare"... the band is the tortoise!!!! Slow and steady usually wins the race... So keep on doing what you are doing and talking to your doctors... Restriction will come.. I'm not all the way there yet either.. I feel some in the mornings, but it loosens by evening.. Take care........Julie

:thumbup:Hello to you all!

I was banded on Sept 12,2008. I am currently down 31lbs. I too wish it were faster, but as someone stated before, atleast it's not coming back. I gave myself a personal trainer for christmas, and have faithfully been going to the gym 3 x per week. I can definitely tell when I try on old clothes, but sometimes I just can't see it. I have become overly obsessed with weighing myself! UGH! I hope you all continue in your success and that by Sept. 09 we will be all a little closer to our goals! Good Luck! ObTech:wink2:
