Newby from Ohio

Hi, all! I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I'm a 31 year old female, scheduled for LB surgery on 3/16 by Dr. Curry. I had my nutrition class today and start my preop diet on 3/9. I'm not one to wish time away, but am anxiously awaiting my 32nd bday on 4/15 (5 days after my first fill!).:)

Thanks for the welcomes and wow - congrats on your weight loss!!

I have to say that I'm stuck in the post "I hate it when people post just to post....." - only on page 7, but OMG am I amused!!

As far as the wait...I was pleasantly surprised with my sooner than later date, so I'm not too anxious yet. (Keyword - YET). Plotting my "last meals" in the weeks to come! Is that bad? :)

Hi Laplady, I live about a hour east of cincinnati in brown county. I am scheduled for the seminar with dr curry 4/29. Very excited. My insurance is already telling me I have to do the 6 month diet. Did you have to do that? Also, is Dr Curry and his staff attentive to all your needs? Thanks for any information. Jenn

I see you have a birthday coming up tomorrow . . . Happy Birthday!!!

So how is it going so far? Was surgery good and did you get your first fill?

Hi, Jenni! My family is from Mt. Orab. :) The seminar is great - you'll get to see actual before/after pics of Dr.C's patients, learn of your surgical options, and hopefully meet Dr.C - he's wonderful! I didn't have to do the 6 month diet, but I did have a gestational diabetes restricted diet prior to pursuing the LB. Honestly, I think it was good for me because it gave me a jump start on the education side of nutrition, which I was really lacking. It will also allow you plenty of time to learn about the lifestyle changes you'll need to make with a LB. As for the attentiveness of Dr.C's staff - they are amazing! Lisa spent sooooo much time on the phone with me initially, answered all my questions, then the nutrition class was great, met others who I still keep in touch with that got the LB on or around the same time, afterward I had the whirlwind of appointments - psych, dietician, etc., and since have had my pre and post op appointments. Everyone there is sooooo nice and most have a LB, so they can share first hand experiences. Erin, the dietician, is one of my personal favs - she's been so patient and helpful every step of the way. I also really like Duane - great sense of humor and made surgery and the first fill so much better than it could have been. And last, but not least, Dr.C - I've had the opportunity for 1:1 discussions with him a few times, and he builds a strong sense of confidence and comfort in the process and his team. I'd highly recommend it! Let me know if you have any other questions. Oh - I also met Dr.C's wife on Friday - both she and he have LBs. She's beautiful with a great personality, and teaches classes there. It's like a big family.

Thanks for the birthday wish, Heather! Things are going great! Surgery went pretty well overall, and I got my first fill last Friday. I'm now on regular diet and just not sure what to do with myself LOL. Down somewhere between 26-28 pounds and trying to get motivated to do some real, regular exercise. I love watching the scale go down - its like a dream come true! How are you?

Thank you for posting back. It is so great to hear all the wonderful comments about dr curry and his staff. I live in Sardinia, and work in eastgate. I am looking forward to my journey. By the way Happy Birthday!!

Hello! I saw on your post that your surgery was today. I'm very interested in hearing about your experience w/ Dr. Curry and his staff. I live about 45 mins. east of Columbus in Newark. I am going to Dr. Curry's seminar in Columbus on May 7th and have scheduled all of my pre-op meetings/consults for May 14th in Cincy. I have already been to a seminar at Barix, Mt Carmel West, and I am going to a seminar at OSU on April 21st. I am paying for this procedure out of my own pocket. So, even though cost should not be your guiding factor, the procedure costs about $5000-$8000 less w/ Dr. Curry than Mt. Carmel West and OSU. I also like the fact that the total cost of the surgery covers the surgeon, hospital, anesthesia, consults, and post-op fills for 1 year. Looking forward to hearing from you soon and GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR JOURNEY!
