Well, if I didn't have the metabolism of a rock, I wouldn't have to do this. I need something mechanical that will beat my body into submission. I've fought with my weight my whole life - time to show it who's boss!:frown:

So, what was your "Last Supper" before you were banded?

Lol, a tin of minestrone soup and a piece of toast. I was very excited about my life change, not really in the mood to do the last supper thing. It just wouldnt have made me feel good about myself, and I wasnt really so attached to any particular food anyway. It was food in general.

I had a chicken parm sub.... But spent the week before having the quantity of food I knew would be no more.

Honestly Oblong--besides the champagne--you can still eat out-you just can't eat the quantity you can before surgery. I had Indian food 2 weeks ago. I couldn't eat the na'an bread (gets stuck) but I had 4 oz of chicken masala and chicken saag with just a little rice (very little). And my fiance and I go out but share.... I have been losing very slow but I am learning a new relationship with food and eating. I am learning to use my band. I now have major restriction (this week) and am taking this to a new level.

I don't know about you--but I never did very well at the "all or nothing" thing when it has come to diets etc.... I really think that is why the band is such a great invention. It allow us to semi-induldge while not letting us go to the extreme. 2 chicken wings-- not the best choice but not too bad. 20 wings-- no way-the band wont allow it.

I don't believe that have the lap band means giving up going out to eat, going to parties or to nice restaurants. It just means eating less. It just takes some getting used to in social/eating situations. I know that my weight has stopped me from doing things in the past-- I will be ding danged if I let my band (my little "lifesaver") prevent me from going anywhere.... Know what I mean?

That's exactly right - its not as if you will never enjoy food again. In fact you might enjoy it MORE, once it loses its hold over you and you're not terrified of what a little taste of something will do to your willpower and subsequently your body.

You can be very successful with a lapband never dieting again, but just practicing portion control and sensible balance between food your body needs and food your head wants. You can have treats, you can go out, you can do all that.

You're not losing anything with this surgery, you gain a whole new life.

I didn't get to have a "last supper". I went for my consultation and they booked my surgery for 2wks later, I had to go on liquids immediately! I was so bummed, I cried for a week because I didn't get to have that last "stuff my face" day. But what I didn't understand, was that I can still have some of my fav foods. Like others have stated, you just have way smaller portions. I can't have a half gallon of ice cream at one sitting anymore, lol. Now I have one weight watchers ice cream. You find ways to work around it so you don't feel deprived.

BUT if I had made a last supper, it would have been chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, maccaroni, and rolls from the Texas Roadhouse!!!

Oblong, You will be able to eat again after lapband. But just think of how it will feel to eat and be satisfied with so much less. I enjoy eating and I can eat anything I choose. I'm 5 months postop. When I decide to eat something, I make sure it is something that I really want to eat now, because I can't have much of it, so I never eat anything I don't like much or eat just to eat. Eating has a whole new meaning for you after lapband. You will eat to live, and not live to eat any longer. I will pray for you and your surgery, and i hope all goes well with you. Patty

My last supper lasted two weeks, at least!!!

i'm 2 sleeps away from my surgery and i haven't had a 'last supper' yet, and i doubt i will. i see this as a lifestyle change, and for me that change started several weeks ago when i made the decision and booked the surgery. yeah, i've spent my fair share of time grieving food and being very tempted to binge, but hey it's not like my favourite foods are going anywhere. like previous posters said, the band will allow me to enjoy food just not in the unhealthy quantities i used to have. i'm determined that my band will allow me to eat all foods as many other successful bandsters are able to.

that said, i still have 2 more meals to go till monday, so you never know what can happen :frown:... give me strength :cursing:

I didn't get a last supper because my surgery was booked very quickly (8 days) and I had to start the pre op diet. Now 3 months since banding I can eat small amounts of most food and because I am actually hungry I can taste the food and enjoy the little bit much more. Good luck!!!

My surgeon didn't require a preop diet either, so I went to the Beau Rivage Casino buffet on Saturday night. I only made one trip to the buffet, but it was good. My surgery was two days later on a Monday and I haven't missed any of the foods yet. I will NEVER do a buffet again, because I can't eat enough to justify it.:thumbup:

My last supper was actually a lite turkey and reduced fat swiss sandwich. It sounds pretty plain, but that's what I was craving at the time.

I had a week long food tour as a "last supper". I said goodbye to all my old crutch favorites. To my frosting stuffed double sided cookie at Mrs. Fields, To baskin robbins peanutbutter chocolate waffle cone, to Red Lobster cheese biscuits and a yummy meal, to the Cheese Cake Factory, a dairy queen blizzard, oh so many things. I limited nothing. At that stage of my life I needed those things.

Can you believe I barely think about them now? The band made me make perminant changes in my life. Wait till you get stuck or sick on one of your old favorites and come to hate it. It's like when you get the flu after eating a food and you never want to eat it again. Changes everything.

I was on a pre op diet, so the "last meal" was simply high Protein low carb.

However!

For those of you who eat steak regularly, or ever CRAVE a nice piece of Ribeye, Strip or Filet mignon...

EAT IT NOW, cause it will NOT go down after you are banded and into a good phase of this lifestyle change.

Steaks don't have a chance, maybe maybe maybe if you cook them for 70 hours (lol) in a slow cooker on low with cream of mushroom or something. Maybe just maybe you could get it down.

but honestly, is that how ANYONE eats steak.

For me, I NEVER ate steak a whole lot. Maybe on occasion, but those days are gone. I learned the hard way eating a 2oz piece of prime rib with 3 steamed carrots one night.

The mistake of all mistakes!! It still hurts my chest just THINKING about it.

Also, chineses!! Ah!! I thought, eat in moderation Steve. YOu can eat anything in moderation!!

NO YOU CAN'T, general tso's chicken.. even in the smallest of a portion hurts so bad its not funny

I'm sure you, and many others may post that that is not the case, that chinese and steak go down great.

I find it hard to believe cause it hurts so bad for me, but if so cool Beans for you.

Take the time to enjoy one final meal, I don't recommend indulging but if you are not on a pre op diet that restricts it, mentally it'd be nice to pick a food with a normal portion size and enjoy it.

Just remember this tip!

You'll never ever miss a food like you'll miss a food AFTER you find out you can never eat it again.

The smell of steak is like sex sometimes, ok thats an exaggeration, but its so enjoyable.

But I cannot eat it....

I'm doing well, and not nuts. Many of us got here due to an obsession with food, I'm no different.

IT's like the forbidden fruit, never again.

My last supper was General Tso's Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, and Canoli. I didn't and still don't regret it. Enjoy. Just make sure you follow your pre-op diet to a "T" and you won't regret it either. Best of luck!
