new kid on the block

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am new to lapband talk. My name is Brittney. I am an overweight young adult who is in the process of getting approved for lap band surgery. Even if I'm not approved through insurance I will still have the surgery. It is not an option. Both my maternal and paternal family genes are obese and the health problems go on for a mile. For me I am hoping this will be life changing in helping me reach my goal weight and maintain a healthy weight for the rest of my life.

I'm new to this sight and still feel relatively new to the LapBand. I was banded on August 5, 2008. Everything went really smoothly and I've still had no complications. I've had two adjustments and the last one seemed to be more effective than the first one...but I'm a little frustrated with myself. I've lost 33lbs so far -- that's 33lbs that I wouldn't have lost on my own! I was walking a good bit around the time of my surgery and picked it back up soon after, but once the time changed, it's pretty much non-existant. I know it's my fault that I'm not doing more with exercise but does anyone have any pointers on motivation tools!?

thanks for the welcome wishes. they are greatly appreciated! my greatest motivation tool for exercising and eating right is a faithful partner...maybe a parent, best friend, sibling, etc. in my opinion, it is so much easier to exercise and diet in with someone you love to be around. i also feel like i can't cancel on this person if we have a set date and time to exercise...

I think you've got the right idea -- accountability is going to be the motivator for me, too. Thanks for your thoughts.

Have you been approved yet for surgery?

i went the doctor today and it looks like insurance will not cover so i will be cash pay. luckily today while i was at the doctor the nurtionist had a cancelation and i got to fill the spot. so now all i have to do is the psych consult wed at 1:30 and i am hoping to do pre op that day and schedule surgery for the week of the 25th. it really hit me today. i am SUPER excited and can't wait for this journey to begin.

Well I'm sorry to hear that your insurance will not cover it but CONGRATULATIONS on your surgery getting much closer! Post here any time you have questions and just to let everyone know how you're doing. :yikes:

Hello to all! I am also new to the site as this is my 4th day post op, banded on 1/13/09. I am excited about what will come from this and look forward to feeling better. So far the pain as been managable but the gas is unbelieveable. I have been using Axcid medication and a moist heating pad to relieve the symptoms and so far that seems to be working. Does anyone have any suggestions on a better way to deal with the discomfort at this point?

For those who are considering the procedure, at this point I have nothing but good to report and wish you the best in your process. Feel free to ask any questions that I may be able to answer

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
