Pre-op diet and constipation

Hi,

I will be starting my 2 week pre-op diet on Tuesday. I am worried about constipation. When I went on the South Beach Diet (no carbs), I hated the constipation that accompanied it. Has anyone suffered from constipation while drinking the Protein shakes?

My shakes had fiber in them (fiber doesn't really count as carbs...I know on atkins you remove the fiber from the carb count) so it wasn't a problem.

Catho, i've just started an extended Pre-Op diet, and I was told to take Metamucil Capsules 2x a day. They'll help with BMs and help you feel fuller so you can deal with the diet.

No this did not happen to me. I did not drink shakes, but had Isopure or Protein Bullets. They are like a fruity protein drink. My BM were normal with these products.

My pre-op is a kinda modified South Beach, I'm also supposed to drink at least 64oz of non-carbonated, decaffeinated drinks throughout the day. That's enough straight liquid to make sure that everything goes smoothly, if you know what I mean.

Yay! :) Thanks for the expertise! I'm glad to hear my bowels won't be too affected. :D For me, that was the worst part of limited carbs.

Catho...carbs don't make you go, fiber does. Fiber IS plant material so I can see how you'd get them confused...but check the fiber on the NI label. We need about 25-30 grams a day, just fyi! :)
