Hi all. Question for you. Why is it that some people report losing like 40 lbs in the first two months after being banded, and some people are only 40 lbs down after 8 months? What makes the difference in weight loss after being banded? Is it the "cheating" and exercise pieces? Thanks for your input.

Eating junk (chocolate, ice cream, candy, chips) will still go down the band with no problem!

I know November and December I ate nothing but JUNK. Haven't gained any......but you won't lose eating JUNK.

Hi,

I am not sure but I have lost 30 pounds, it hasn't been easy but the band isn't just gonna make you lose weight, you have to work at it also.

You still have to stay away from the JUNK and eat good Protein foods and drink lots of Water. I have been doing an exercise video in the mornings at least 4 times a week. It is hard too esp when you are fat and would like to sleep that extra 30 min but I am determined to lose this weight. I am 3X now and want to be a 14/16 in a year or less. I know it is possible b/c my friend was 3x and down to a 12 in 15 months.

Anyway not sure the rates, but everyone is different and I am sure that some cheat with JUNK. I do have chocolate every now and again but it is only a few m&ms rather than the whole bag...

Hope that helps~!

Exercising really did it for me...no matter what I was working out, even in the rain.

Be blessed!

Depends on lots of things such as:

the difference between your body's energy needs and the calories you're taking in (everyones' different, some burn more energy than others, some get great restriction after surgery and some dont).

How much weight you lost on your pre op diet - have you already exhaused the easy run before being banded?

how much you exercise - it didnt make me lose fast but it kept me losing steadily, I never plateaued all the way to goal.

Weight loss is not necessarily fat loss. If you're very bloated and hold lots of Water - that comes away fast. Cutting back super hard on calories, like to 600 a day will result in fast weight loss but you can guarantee its lots of Water and muscle as well as fat at first.

Metabolic disorders such as PCOS or thyroid problems can make it really hard to lose.

its pointless comparing yourself to others, its your journey and nobody else's.

The same stuff that affects rate of loss before surgery affects it afterward.....food choices, amount of exercise, metabolic conditions...all still there both before and after the band. The band can limit the portion sizes of certain foods and result in greater satiety when used correctly. The ability of any given individual to use it correctly largely affects rate of loss along with any medical conditions and activity level.

Don't compare one to another. Nobody else matters...just you!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
