Question about hernias

Okay, during my surgury (done on 12/11/08), they ended up finding two large hernias, and repaired them. But my stomach has been hurting a little bit here the past few days, and my top portion of my stomach looks more poked out than before. Has anyone had hernias, and had any problems?? Could my hernias have come back maybe?????

I had a large hernia repair as well. I did have stomach swelling after and i did have some residual soreness for quite some time. I don't think my hernia ever came back . . . it just seemed to be part of the healing process.

It sounds normal but you should always call your doctor if you have any concerns.

I also had a hernia repaired at the time of surgery which was 12/16/08. I am still in quite a lot of pain in my stomach area and part of my stomach comes out more than the other right now. We didn't know that I had the hernia so when I was told, I was totally surprised. I hope this pain ends soon.

My doc told me that about 50% of patients have a hiatal hernia detected at the time of banding that needs to be repaired (done at same surgery, before the band is put on). If it's not fixed, reflux will be worsened.

I am being banded on mon 12/29. I was told by my dr on tuesday that i have a large hiatal hernia and that part of my colon is there and since its so large i have a 50/50 chance of getting the band. Anyone else have this problem?
