Cheese... glorified fat?

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have a question, in my mushies stage, which thankfully I am out of, my nutritionist said to add cheese in things to increase the Protein content of food, I have read many of your daily food logs that include cheese, and yet, I have a paper here, that the bariatric coordinator at the hospital gave to me, that says, "Cheese is nothing but glorified fat, stay away from cheese" has anyone else had this mentioned to them, i thought cheese was good... and what about fat free cheese?

:)I love cheese, almost every kind, but I do try to get the low fat kind. I know the confusion...who do we listen to, right? At this point, I listen mostly to my surgeon. I figure if I have too much trouble dropping lbs, maybe I'll cut the cheese...so to speak! HaHa!

good luck! Joanie :))

I am personally a cheese addict, and I read somewhere that cheese can enduce a high endorphin release in the brain , which I thought was BS, but apparently is true, and is why I can eat a whole bag of string cheese in one sitting. I don't doubt it's true, but all those articles are written by vegans to pump fear into people about dairy...and I used to live with a vegan who was hardcore and ruthless about it. But nonetheless, I do know some people that stay away from all types of cheese, but that does necesarily mean you can't have it in moderation and sitll be succesful, congrats on your sugery by the way!

I love cheese! Before surgery I could eat an entire block. Now...it's great in moderation.

I don't consider it glorified fat. I consider it a decent semi-solid Protein. String cheese is a great snack. A stick strung and wrapped up in lunch meat makes a great lunch. Yesterday at Sam's Club I bought a bag of single serving low-fat colby jack.

I think there is a lot to be said about everything in moderation. But I'd give up a lot of things before I'd give up my cheese.< /p>

"Cheese is nothing but glorified fat, stay away from cheese"

This is a cliche' and I've heard it all over the place (even on this forum). cheese can have a high fat content, but it's also rich in Protein and Calcium, and moderately low in carbohydrates.

Eaten in moderation, it can make your post-band meals more satisfying and cut your cravings for food that is really bad for you. Forget the cliche's and have a little cheese.

I think cheese is best eaten in moderation, it is very high fat - and that's saturated fat - and often high in sodium too.

I love cheese, I do eat it but its not a daily food for me, and I try to keep servings small.

I dont do low carb or high Protein so I base my diet more on lower fat higher carb (good carb) foods and only eat things like cheese and small amounts.

cheese is ok. I got shredded lowfat or fat free cheese that I put inside my scambled eggs every morning ( all eggs that have 6 g of protien then the cheese) I bought low fat pepperjack which I love too to keep my foods from being to blah. Cheese can be a good source of protien/calcium. I dont usually eat even the serving size, probably half of one. I dont plan on cutting it out since it does have protien and I do not consider it glorified fat. the low fat i maybe getting 2 g of fat when addin gcheese but my whole meal is under 6 g of fat anyway so no biggie. I dont know if i would eat reg cheese much, but still great source of protien

I loooooove cheese & I eat it a lot for Snacks and I add it to a lot of my meals.

Since I use it so much, I buy low fat.

I actually found a great cheese with less then 2 grams of fat per serving, low calories and almost zero carbs. It's called lifetime cheese. I love their jalapeno jack cheese. YUM! I also buy Trader Joes Light Sliced Provolone. Yum, yum!

I'm losing aprox 2 pounds per week so eating cheese is not stopping my weight loss.

I get it at my local grocery store. Ralphs to be exact, but I am sure you can find it at other grocers.

For 1oz it has

1.68 gram fat

1 gram Carb

1 Gram Sugar

47 Calories

You can also get it in Fat Free. Delicious & it melts really well.

Another of my favorites is Light Laughing Cow cheese.

Ali. Where do you get Lifetime cheese? Becky

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
