yes! scrub it well (it'll hurt but bite your tongue and do it) with a good antibacterial soap like dial, then put neosporin or bacitracin on it and cover it with a large bandaid or some gauze and tape. Check it again tomorrow morning and if it is still oozing, call your doc. That yellow could be the start of an infection but if you aren't warm etc you can catch it now! Good for you!

I would suggest calling your doctor. I was told not to scrub my incisions at all but to just let soap cascade over them. I had "yellowish" stuff too and that was the start of a scab. I would definitely call your doc if you are worried.

See my yellowish stuff was infection. My husband is an RN and does wound care, and told me it was infected...I went in to my doc and they said to do just what I told you (and what my husband told me) but I can't see it; if you are unsure wait until tomorrow and call your doc. I was 6 days post op and they told me to do what I've passed on to you, and in fact told me to clean all my incisions with soap. (only scrub the infected one though)

HOWEVER each doc is different so if you are uncomfortable cleaning it out, putting an antibiotic on it and covering it up, by all means it won't hurt you to wait a few hours and call your doc's office tomorrow for instructions!

LouLou,

It could be infection, or it could not. My only suggestion was to contact your doctor before doing anything. If they say to scrub it, great! I was told to clean my incisions too but not scrub them. I was also told to leave the tape on until it fell off on it's own (believe me, I hated that! :girl_hug:) Each doc is different and since I cannot see your incision, that is my suggestion. Have a great evening!

Steri tape strips (that are allowed to fall off on their own, usually in 7-10 days) are different from the adhesive tape used to secure gauze etc.

Although irishrose doesn't seem to think I do...I agree with her that if you are unsure or reluctant to clean it, don't. A few more hours won't hurt you or endanger you any! You know your body better than either of us. Most "yellow" stuff is infection, not scab, but again language has it's limitations. Unless I could look at it in person I couldn't tell you if it's infected or not. (nor could your doc!) so do what feels right to you. Either way, call your doc tomorrow to be sure! :girl_hug:

I had the same thing from one of my incisions, but there were no other signs of infection. There was only a little bit of clear yellow oozing. I just wiped it away... I think with a piece of tissue actually... and watched it. It did not return and I have had no other problems. But I agree with everyone that if you're worried, give your doc a call... just wanted to let you know how mine turned out.

Nah Monkey, I know you agree with me, I just had to make a comment about washing my incisions! You're going to make everyone think I don't shower!!! :sneaky: :smile2: j/k

I know my tape was different but I still hated them, just trying to get sympathy for it. hehe. I actually did pull a couple off when they were halfway off, they made my skin itch.

You know, I wish these docs would all get together and decide what works the best and have ONE standard! Kind of like the pre and post op diets. :girl_hug:

guys ... i went to the hospital last night, the oozing was called serous or something of the sort, it is not infected but it happens that big wounds excrete some material while getting healed ( go figure) . the doctor cleaned it and got all the yellow stuff out and out a full dressing on it ... i saw my doctor this morning he did the same ... they said it is not infected but has to stay with gauze inorder is something is excreted to be out ... i m going back in 2 days for follow up ... no pain ...thanks for the input ... it is good to know you are not alone ... :-)

I also had a problem over my port. First, after some yard work I noticed a bubble over/on top of my scar. I am one month post op so just thought I over did it. A few days later I noticed what looked like a hair/turned out to be a stitch, so I pulled on it. Out came a good bit of a yellowish creamy ooze. I pressed untill I thought it was all out. Also some air bubbles oozed as well. I wondered if this actually opened to my stomach!!! Called the Dr. and was told this was an infected stitch, wash with antibacteral soap, use anti. ointment and it would be fine. Now I wonder if/when I can get my first fill. It does look better but I would rather wait and be sure it has all healed before having a needle inserted back into this area? Can anyone relate?

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
