Surgery in two days

Recommended Posts

Hi! everyone. My surgery is in 2 days. I started my process in May and have lost a total of 37lbs so far. My surgery is going to be done on an out patient basis. Is anyone else doing it with same day surgery???

ME TOO! My surgery is Friday 8/29 and I'm HOPING to be outpatient. It will depend on how I'm doing, of course. My surgeon usually keeps everyone overnight but after seeing how well I did 8/11 on his first attempt to place the band, he said he "might" let me go home Friday evening. :w00t:

I wish!

My surgery is in 2 days as well! But my doc insists on an overnight stay. So, I will be staying. Are you doing a pre-op diet?

I am scheduled for Sept 12 and expect to be same day urgery. I will start the preop diet This thurs. I figure if I have the will power to do that... it will tell me something about myself and maybe I'll have the confidence to do the rest.

My Dr. has you do Optifast 2 weeks prior to the surgery. I was wondering about the fatty liver thing. Did they start the surgery and found out about the fatty liver or can they tell before the surgery??

Nieves, he couldn't tell. The ultrasound and chest x-ray show where my liver is but not how thick. It was too thick to him to move without lacerating it, or "opening me up" (glad he didnt do that!)

I had lost 15 pounds but NOT by following his preop diet so I'm doing what he said this time and have lost another 15. He said I was the only patient he ever had in over 1000 what he couldn't get the liver moved. (wonderful, huh? LOL) He did say it looked healthy, just thick.

There's a poster on a WW bulletin board I frequent who had the same thing happen to her but I do believe it's rare!

Monkey did doc say if there was any way to tell if there is a problem before procedure? Will a liver function test tell? anyone know?

no. As I said he did chest x ray ultrasound...and i didn't say but they took 5 vials of blood and tested me for everything including, I think, beri beri LOL They also did an ekg (nothing to do w/my liver of course) they were very thorough. (this besides nutrition psych etc) Even if it showed it was fat until he gets in there he won't know HOW fat, WHERE, if he can move it, and so on. No way to tell. So follow your surgeon's diet, is the only advice I can give.

Hi Neives. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 12th too (we are in this together scalingdown08). Today was my seventh day of a three week pre-op diet. Not so bad for me. My surgury is out patient. I will be there for about 4 hours total. I am from Albuqerque New Mexico and having my procedure done in Houston Texas. The surgery is on Friday and I am staying in Texas until Sunday. Heck.... I have to be back at work on Tuesday - keep your fingers crossed for me ;)

The only reason that I am staying overnight is so that they can monitor the effect of the anesthesia on my sleep apnea. Otherwise, I would be a same-day surgery.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
