What about Carnation instant breakfast, sugar-free with a scoop of protein powder? That's what I did. Ask your doctor.

I also add a little crushed ice to mine and mix it in a blender, gives it a different texture and taste. Hang in there, 10 days is worth it for a lifetime of better health!

I followed my 2 week preop to the "t" and lost 8 lbs. But I was disappointed to learn that my liver did not shrink due to diabetes. I would not have gone through the starvation if I had known that - that was boderline cruel.

  • 4 months later...

I am on the diet for the 2nd time, since my first surgery was cancelled right before it was to take place. I have til monday, jan 5. I have been mixing my own shakes cause I hate even the atkins shakes. It is whey protein, vanilla and i mix it with those tubes of suger free, like, lemonaide, fruit punch , koolaid, + 3pks of splenda , water and ice and it only has 5 carbs and 26 grams of protein and I have also mixed up me some sugar free peach jello and then added my scoop of protein and drank it like that & it was pretty good too. i just drank it and didn't let it jel. Ain't nothing good !!!!

I to did the pre op diet twice, my first surgery was canceled the day before surgery. So I had to do another two weeks liquid diet a few months later. It is very hard to stay on track, but YOU can do it. IT IS SOOO WORTH IT. I drank the protein drink from walmart three times a day, and then supplimented with jello, broth, hot tea.... alot of hot tea. I also ate sherbert. Hang in there. it will be over before long..

two weeks is a small price to pay when you are talking about your health....

Well, occasionally cheating on the preop diet won't get you cancelled... so don't worry about that.

It is just a couple of weeks work, so do the best you can, take it one day at a time, and don't beat yourself up.

Remember, this couple of weeks preop is just the start of a long road (and a few months from now, you won't even remember much about it).

But the idea of Slim Fast being vial.... It is still one of the better tasting shakes, so you might need to make yourself learn to like it. :wink2:

Oh I so remember having a hard time with the pre-op diet AND the first few weeks post-op. Taking it one day at a time is good advice, and I even literally had to think ONE HOUR at a time! I really like the Unjury chocolate protein powder mixed w/ skim milk. I blend it w/ ice in my smoothie maker sometimes, too. You can order it online, and it comes quickly. Good luck!
