Hernias

Hi there

I have a hernia ( sliding) which causes me no probs at all. Would this be a contra indication for being banded? If so, can anyone tell me why? Has anyone had a hernia pre operation?

Thanks

Arran

I am getting my Lap band put in on 15th Sept 2008 and I have Hiatic Hernia and the doctor is going to fix the hernia while he is putting the lap band in.. Hope that helps... GOOD LUCK

The same thing happened to me Lafrogura. When I woke up my husband told me the Dr. fixed a hiatal hernia while she was in there. Great for me!! I guess that is just something they do while they are in there.

I had a Hiatal Hernia that was discovered before my surgery. Mine was not sliding, 1/3 of my stomach was above my diaphram and it was repaired with some mesh attached to my diaphram to reinforce it. That explained why I had severe heartburn and reflux for many years and no medication on the market would resolve my issue. For the first time in 5 years I do not have any heart burn any my food goes down easier.

I got banded Friday & the dr fixed a hiatal hernia I didn't know I had while he did my band. You'll be fine...good luck!

Me too!!! I tried every otc med I could find plus got a prescription of nexium thinking it was indigestion. I did know that I was getting it way too often but didn't really think I had a hernia. I sure am thankful though. No meds now!!! Woo Hoo!!:thumbup:
