The one that I purchased from GNC looks like a long tube and is 3.1 oz of liquid. It's labeled as New whey Liquid Protein, 42g. Many people only use 1/2 of it at time either drinking it straight or mixing it with Crystal Light or something else. I haven't tried it yet so I can say out it tastes.

My doctor/nutritionist wants me to get 70 grams of protein per day so I wouldn't take more if I'm meeting that.

Your body can only handle 20 grams of Protein at one time. Any more than that amount will only be discarded by your body. I break down my Proteins in that amount, or close to it.

This was told to me by my nephew, a very good surgeon.

They look like this:

They are usually called Protein shots. I get mine at Walmart for $1.97 each, 26 grams of protein per shot-fruit punch flavored. I had been mixing it with Crystal Light but now I just drink it down straigt from the tube.

With three protein based meals, one cup of skim milk with my Vitamins and one of these shots per day I am able to get my 70 grams of protein in. I have read as Maudi said that we can only absorb so much protein at one time and I have also read that this is a myth...I have not been able to verify it either way. I want to try and catch the nutritionist at my surgeons office and see what she says.

You my feel like you are getting enough protein but you really need to know for sure. You should keep track of your daily intake and make sure you are getting in what your surgeon and nutritionist recommends. Mine recommends 70Gper day, I am supposed to eat three meals per day with protein in each then take the supplements to make up for any shortages, I was told not to use these shots or shakes to replace a meal.

Bandsters can become deficient in protein which can cause healing problems, Fluid retention in your hands, feet and abdomen, weak and decreased muscles, hair loss etc.

They taste like fruit punch Kool-aid but they are a little thick...sort of like Jello before it sets. Most people have problem with the consitency so they mix it with their drink but I am able to take it straight...it is only three of four gulps to get it down.

Gosh JODI I am forever looking for them at walmart and can't find them I might have to call and ask them to order some. I have ordered some on line the same kind and I mix them in Gatorade orange flavor. I bet the fruit punch taste good, I just tried fruit punch crystal and all I have to say is YUM YUM, I just can't get a whole bottle down it makes me feel real ugly in my tummy!! So I will only drink a half bottle and save the rest for later.

So to answer your question yes that is what they look like and they are kind of thick I could not drink it straight but I do only half becasue of the advice here saying our bodies only absorb 20mg at a time so that is what I do now.

I would call them...it can't hurt. Like I explained last time we discussed this, I had bought out my local Walmart and was wondering if they would re-stock. Low and behold, went there last weekend and they had indeed restocked.

Hi, Long2bFree. You and I had our surgeries on the same date. I was not on a pre-op diet so I didn't lose any pre-op and managed to lose 9 lbs post-op in the first week but have had no weight loss in my second week even though I'm still on the soft mushy post-op diet and staying below 1000 calories per day. What has your post-op weight loss been like?

GNC has some long tube like protein shots - lemon-lime, fruit punch, etc. some have 45 and some have 27 (I may be off a few) and I drink one every day just open top and drink it down - not bad tasting to me and it goes down fast.

Also, Starbucks has two new protein shakes - one is a Mango Banana Vivanno and the other is Banana Chocolate VIvanno - low calorie and has a whole banana in it and has 21 grams of protein.

I'd compare their taste to diluted jello--The 42-gram shots are much thicker than the 24-25 gram ones, so the higher-protein shots would be harder to swallow if you don't like the thick stuff. I don't use them every day, but I always have them on hand. Even tho they're best cold or over ice, I keep one in the car, so if I'm needing protein, it's right there.
