Probaby have horrid breath too.

Any remedy? Sympathy? Can I have breath mints?

Just make sure its not Thrush! It may be because you are Ketosis from not eating enough.

I had the same problem last week (post op), it started with icky breath, then white on my tongue that would not brush off with a tooth brush, then sores so bad it hurt to talk or eat all over my mouth. I finally went to my Dr. in misery. It took 2 days of treatment for my mouth to stop hurting. I was told it was due to the antibiotics given during surgery. It kills the good bacteria in your mouth and then the fungus/yeast starts to grow.

I noticed that when I prespire now it smells different. Not really stinky, but I never smelled anything besides my deodorant before.

what were you given for treatment...not to thread crash, but I have to swish and swallow with Nystatin prior to surgery *scheduled for Wednesday...and I noticed yesterday a bump on my tongue and more bumps on the back of my tongue....I do not know if this is a reaction to the swish and swallow, but I thought it was supposed to get rid of yeast???

My dogs confirm that I smell different. I train and show in dog obedience competitions (next weekend too, if I'm up to it) and one of the things he has to do is select the metal and leather article that I've handled from several identical ones.

Usually his best exercise, he hasn't gotten it right in practice the last 3 days.

I heard this happens to dogs whose people have undergone chemo too.

I have a white tongue, will ask the doc about it. Could be thrush.

I was given a prescription of tablets that I took, 5 for 5 days. It took two days for my mouth to stop killing me and 3 days for it to visibly go away. I'm a foster mom and I have had a few babies who had thrush, mine didn't look like their's but there was a white coating on my tongue, I also started with one sore on my tongue it multiplied FAST.

I would get it checked out ASAP! Thrush only gets worse. It went from kind of irritating to very painful ulcers in my mouth to the point it hurt to eat and to talk. I guess when your body's chemicals get mixed up this sort of thing can happen. Niastatin kills bacteria, good and bad-it could have caused a chemical imbalance that lead to a yeast infestation, gross but, anyway I would get it checked out.

You most likely have thrush if you have a white coating in your tongue that can't be brushed off. I would call your primary doc ASAP, it only gets worse. I posted above but I mean it went from irritating to VERY painful ulcers.

oh man do i have a mouth problem right now!!

monday night it felt like i had something stuck in my throat. not the bad way, but almost how it felt to have a piece of popcorn kernel stuck (but i haven't had any). i figured it would go away.

yesterday it got worse, and yesterday afternoon i managed to take a look back there.. way in the back of my throat, next to my tonsil, was a reddish brown bump. i figured it was just a really bad canker sore, even though i've never had one back there.

today, i noticed that it was white in the middle and red around it! weird. then, right before the end of the day, the white part took over the red part and as i was examining it in the mirror, i opened my mouth and the white part was gone! ew i swallowed whatever that was!! so gross.

now the white part seems to be creeping back. it looks like i have a hole in my throat with the white stuff peeking out from behind my skin. it is so incredibly disgusting.

maybe unrelated, but i also have a canker sore on the side of my tongue (on the other side of my mouth as the strange red/white mess).

i have a doc appt with my GP first thing tomorrow. i can't figure out what this is, but it's hard to swallow and my froat hurts!!!

Three sixty six, sorry about your mouth. That sounds very painful!!!

I have been feeling like I have really bad breath for several days, but after listening to you guys, I think may it is ketosis. I'm definitely getting 70 or so grams of Protein a day, so that isn't the culprit. Glad to hear someone else with these problems, and hope they disappear before I have to return to work!

A high Protein, low carb diet will put you in ketosis. It's where your body is burning the actual fat instead of food energy. Just eat some carbs and it will go away. You will then be burning food energy.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
