Did anyone wear a girdle doing the post op phase?

No, would have been too uncomfortable for me what with the incisions and the gas (too bloated) I couldn't even stand regular or elastic pants for a while....wore them way low on my stomach.

They gave me one at the hospital and I wore it for 2 days at home but then it got hot and itchy so I took it off :thumbs_up: I can't say it helped one way or the other.

At my pre-opt they told me to ask for one at the hospital if they don't offer

Girl me and SPANX are best friends. I wore them before and I am about 2.5 weeks out and I have some on as i type this. i have them in all cuts and colors. And to be honest even my thin friends wear them.

They are so comfy and worth every stinking cent!!!

Your surgery is in 12 days WOW!! Mine was June 11th. I can't believe its done and I ahve to say 2.5 weeks out I feel GREAT!!

Hi Lalared...you're not too far away from me (I am near Dulles Airport).

I don't think that a girdle would have been very comfortable for me. My smaller incisions did not hurt but my port incision was sore and the skin around the port and across my waistband area was very sensitive to the touch (sort of felt like the pain of a sunburn). Around the house I felt better in a loose nightgown and underwear that didn't go above my belly button. And when I had to go out I wore very loose clothing.

Do you mean the kind you get after a tummy tuck or a plain ole girdle?

I wear a girdle whenever I want that smooth all over look.

I would have had to use a band, as opposed to a girdle, mine were way to high. One was up almost between my breasts.....so I cannot imagine a girdle helping me.

I am wearing high waisted compression now, for 4 more days---following my TT--cannot wait to not be in this thing all the time!!!!!

I mean a plain ole girdle... I wear one to work everyday. Iam trying to find out when I return to work, will I be able to put a girdle on without messing up my lapband.

It took about two weeks maybe a little more before I could stop wearing the loose fitting clothing. If you are able to comfortably wear one, I wouldn't think that it would mess up your band.

The simplest, safest way to find out is to just ask your surgeon/Dr.

My PS told me he wanted me in compression, but not too tight. He said that interferes with healing as well. I know when I bought a new compression early on, I was more swollen, and tried to wear it, it caused me to reflux! He said that was pretty common, to loosen up!

Seems like a simple thing to call and ask, the receptionist could relay the answer. I still believe it will depend upon where your incisions end up....different Dr.'s put them in all kinds of different places!! I have even recently heard of one up by the collarbone!

I went out and bought an abdominal binder during that first week. For some reason, my incisions felt better when pressure was applied. So, it did help with that. I didn't do it for looks, just so that I felt better.

Ditto. My muscles were too tired. They could heal or support themselves. The port incision felt instantly better when the waist nipper thingy was doing the support work.

I wear a panty girdle, brand name "Control It" bought at Kohl's, everyday for work. It just makes me look better in my clothes, and I like the feeling of being pulled in that it gives me. I have a huge surgical hernia going down the lower abdomen from three previous surgeries (they always cut in the same place), and it helps it not hurt as much.

I was also sent home from the lapband surgery with an abdominal binder, and I put that on sometimes at home for extra support. I've worn the binders off and on around the house for several years, since I get one every time they cut into my abdomen.

As soon as I lose a bit more weight, the hernia is getting fixed as part of an "abdominal wall reconstruction". It'll be better than a tummy tuck, since insurance should pay.

I was told to wear an abdominal binder for a week post-surgery. I really noticed the difference is pain level when it was not on. I think that if I had not had it, I would have had to use my pain meds. As it was, I took 2-3 doses of my lortab right after surgery, and didn't even need tylenol after that.
