Blood from incisions......anybody?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery June 17th. My surgeon used dermabond to seal the incisions. I noticed around day 3 that one of the incisions had what looked like a big dried blood bubble around it. I didn't think much of it. Last night I dropped some stuff and after I picked it up I noticed that blood was draining out of that same incision. Not a lot, but enough to make me uncomfortable! So I just laid down and haven't been up much since. There was some blood on the sheets since, but not a lot.

Has this happened to anyone else? Should I call my surgeon? I hate being that patient that calls on the weekends or nights!!

It may not be a big deal, but if I were you I would go ahead and call your surgeon. That is what they are there for, and it's better to be safe than sorry. I did have a little "spotting" after surgery, but it was more of a yellowish red color that my surgeon's office said was normal. But, it truly was spotting and not draining. Let us know what you find out!

Hey Steve(or Amy),

I'm about as far out as you are and my largest incision, under my left boob, is oozing some, I think I might have pulled a stick out by accident, but I do remember them saying they might ooze a little, but I would just call them tomorrow, unless you just start running blood out or something, then I would not hesitate to call them today!! Let me know how it's going.....are you hungry? My hunger has kind of diminished some now, thanks goodness.....

Take care,

Darie

I had the same experience after my surgery. The blood under the skin needs to drain to heal if it is like one of my incisions. I oozed for quite a few weeks. I at first put Neosporin and a bandaid over it. Wrong. It caused it to become worse. My doc was not pleased with me and said it needed to dry up. What worked in the end was washing my incisions lightly with antibacterial soap when I took a shower. I had gotten really tired of spots on my sheets and gowns so I bought sterile gauze and tape to use on skin and put about 4 pieces of gauze on at night or whatever. I think mine must have lasted longer. I was really discouraged when the blood pooled under the skin. It was not a problem,...it just didn't heal until it drained. We all live through these aggrevations. The thing is always call your doc about anything that worries you. Good luck with your weight loss.

Thank you so much for everyone's input. It hasn't happened again today, but tomorrow I'm still calling the doc because of the persistent diarrhea and I'll mention it.

Darie-My hunger has been amazing! I feel like someone has switched inside of me. I am not hungry at all, not even mentally. But I'm not getting too excited...because I don't want to curse it and start getting hungry/starving before that first fill! I'm glad your has gotten better!

I had dermabond also and the same thing happened on 2 of my incisions. My poor new nightgowns that my mother bought me were stained every night for about 3 days! It also dripped down my tummy after I got out of the shower. My surgeon told me as long as it wasn't discolored or swollen or painful to the touch a little oozing is normal. No fever also. He told me to take a clean piece of gauze, and press it down on the incision for a few minutes and the bleeding should stop. That was a bit uncomfortable day 2 and 3 as my anesthesia was wearing off, but after about 3 or 4 days it stopped. I think the glue on those was a little thinner than the other incisions. But now I'm 4 weeks out and my scars are all healed up. They are a little raised, but I heard that Vitamin E oil helps with scarring. Hope this helps!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
