Going to the dentist before your surgery?

I read somewhere on here yesterday where they advised the person to go to the dentist before their surgery, and I was just wondering, why? Is there some reason why you can't go afterwards? Just curious and wondering if I should try to get in before I have my surgery on the 29th.:frown:
