I am in a tremendous amount of pain!!!!! I am 6 weeks post op and had been in my 2nd week of mushies when I started getting this tremendous pain in my throat about 1 hour post eating. I am eating slow very slow and chewing everything to mush and not drinking while I eat so i am following all the rules. I called my doctor and they keep poo pooing it saying its stress! In the last week I lost 8 pounds because I am so afraid to put anything down because I know the pain is coming. It feels as if there is a tight tight clamp around my throat! The pain is so severe it causes a headache and then the nausea comes! Laying down on my back but propped up a little is the only relief I can get from this! For the last 48 hours my doctor told me to go back to Clear Liquids and start shakes today. I was OK on the clear liquids but once I had the shake BAM it started all over again! Can anyone please help me!!!!!?????:):):):):sad::thumbdown::thumbs_down:

No vomiting although I feel like I have to most of the time. I decided to take an antacid today and felt alot better. Perhaps its acid reflux?

Hi Tink.

I'm being banded next month and your experience scares me, especially since the dr. doesn't seem to be taking it seriously. Did this just happen suddenly or have you felt bad all along? Are you feeling any better?

Ouch! My guess is you are either having reflux or esophageal spasms. Either way, they should be listening to you. Call back and let them know it happened again, and if they blow you off then make an appt with your primary care doc. Someone needs to help you with this. You should not have to suffer in pain!

That is what the PA told me that it was esophageal spasms and that 48 hours of clear liquids should cure that. Well it has been a week now and I still have the same problems. I am going to the doctor tomorrow whether they want to see me or not. How do they treat esophageal spams and how long does it take to resolve itself?

I think what I am feeling is very rare. I had absolutely no problems at all for the first 5 weeks post op and then BAM this came on very suddenly. One day I was eating mushies fine the next I couldnt eat anything at all. Even though I am going thru this I would not ever say I shouldnt have gotten the band. The fact is I feel way better this way than starving for food like I was all day long. Go ahead with your surgery. Everything will be fine!

I am not sure -- I think they might have something to relax the muscles? I hope they are able to solve it. :crying:

Was the shake that you had really cold? I think really cold stuff makes it worse.

I just went to the doctor today and had an Upper GI which revealed basically nothing yet I am still having these problems. The liquid seems to be going thru the band fine. They now have diagnsoed me with acid reflux and have placed me on a 2 weeks stint of Prilosec hoping that the sitauation will resolve itself. I ate today one meal after taking the prevacid and was in agony for 4 hours. Dont know what else to do! Anyone?

Yes thank God I am feeling better! I have been on prilosec for 3 days now and I can actually eat what I am supposed to now with very little discomfort. It is amazing though that I had to suggest to the dr's office what I needed. This website and all of you guys were the ones who made me push the issue otherwise I would still be in pain! Thanks so much to all of you for your help! If anyone is still suffering out there with this extreme pain and you havent had a fill then you should know that your next step should be to treat acid reflux. Thanks again everyone!

Tink,

So glad you're feeling better - it's really scary when you feel something is 'wrong' with your band. I'm glad the Prilosec is helping. My husband is also on that and it seems to really work wonders.

Glad you pushed to find out what was going on. Good lesson there for all of us.

My doctor had me taking prilosec every day since day after surgery as a precaution for this. Wish I read your post sooner so could have helped out...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
