Pre-Op liquid diet question

Recommended Posts

My doctor just said that I should lose 5-10 pounds before surgery. Since my initial consultation I have actually gained 6 (My grandmother died last weeks and we were with her in the hospital for a couple of weeks and ate nothing but junk). I would like to do a liquid diet before my surgery which is one week from today. Can someone please tell me what a liquid diet consists of?

Liquid.

But what you are wanting is a diet...not just liquids.

Grapefruit juice w/ green Beans and broiled chicken...that's what alot of people use to get weight off...QUICK.

I wouldn't worry about the weight gain a bit. So what you gained 6 pounds during your grandmother's passing. That's not going to stop a doc from doing surgery.

I would talk to the doctor first. My doctor weighs you before surgery and he won't do the surgery if you didn't do as requested. I know you have circumstances that made it really hard to meet the goal... But my doc is serious about it so check with yours.

Mine isn't that serious, he just said try to lose 5-10 lbs. if you don't that is okay. So really I just want to get back to where I was at the office.

my doc suggested I lose 30lbs. I gained since he said that (also had a lot of stress and dealing with family medical issues, and last supper syndrome) and since the liquid diet have lost down to where I originally weighed in at the consult 2 months ago. I have my pre op tomorrow and am nervous that he will be dissapointed. Hopefully he is not as strict as some Surgeons and will still do the surgery I am counting on it.

Good Luck to ya!

I had Water and slim fast for a week and lost 8 lbs. I had to be on a liquid diet before I had my op. It was sure hard expect another 3 weeks without food. I think it is better to get the whey proteint powder and mix with milk instead of slimfast it has a lot of sugar. Try to get at least 50 grams of proteint in you. good luck hope everything goes good for you.

my Dr's 10 pre op diet plan

Breakfast: Protein shake and 8oz yogurt

snack: coffe or tea w/ SF sweetener, 1 cup of milk per day as one of 3 dairy servings, diet snapple, diet soda or crystal light

lunch: 1 cup V-8 juice (regular not splash or chunky), 1/2 cup cottage cheese, chicken broth, SF popsicle & SF beverage

snack: Protein Shake

dinner: 1 can low sodium broth based Soup, not chunky or mega noodle just normal veggie or campbells chicken noodle, SF Jello, SF fudgesicle

Thats my 10 day pre op I have to follow, supposedly he says most patients lose 10-15lbs. Good luck!!

My 17 days were of a no-carb diet: I was allowed low-carb yogurt, cottage cheese, crystal lite, sugar-free fudgsicles, etc. My Bariatric Center gave me an instruction booklet with exact details.

It was the sugar they were more concerned with than just being on liquids...:grouphug:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
