March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Hey all.

So there's a bunch of us in this group, all split up into our different banding days. I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have one master thread as we move through the month, in which all of us could post as we go, from the pioneers going on March 1st to the finalists on March 31st.

I'd love to talk about our anticipation and any worries as we approach our banding date, for people to talk about exactly what happened from the moment they walked into the hospital door until the second they walked out, about how recovery is going, about weight loss and plateaus, about non-scale victories and challenges.

I was thinking that if we all contribute to one thread, it'll form a more substantial channel for information and support. At the moment, I was thinking that we might be too spread out into individual date, and that a central thread would be a really good backbone for the group, in addition to the date-specific threads.

What do you think?

Fenton

Hi Carol:

I just right clicked on someone else's and pasted it in my signature. I'm not sure if you can do that with mac. If not, I'm sure someone knows how to do it.

Hi to all! I am scheduled for surgery on March 11 at Louisa, Ky with Dr. Velcu. I am also very excited and nervous! So is everyone drinking Protein shakes on their liquid diet? I haven't been. I've only been doing SF Jello, broth, and crystal light. I must admit I'm starting to get hungry! Is there more I should be eating. My Dr. just told me Clear liquids until surgery.

I know what you mean about the hubby being "not so supportive". I dont know if mine is just worried or what, but he's not very positive about the whole process. He says I will regret it because I enjoy eating so much. I disagree, but hes hard to convince. I think hes just afraid something will go wrong.

A friend of mine recommended the unjury Protein drinks. She says she has tried many and she likes that one the best, so Im planning on trying those. So do you think I should be drinking them now? I was thinking I was supposed to wait until after surgery. Anyway, its great to talk to people who are sharing the same experience! This site is a great comfort to me!redface.gif

Hello all, I am scheduled for 3/20, but my doctor has not told me to do a pre-diet except for clear liquids with the bowel cleanse 24 hours b4 surgery. I have not even thought of getting any of the items mentioned in the previous post so I am glad I came here. I wish luck to all that are in this process, I know I have had second thoughts but keep returning to this is what I need to do. PA

Hi Y'all,

I am so glad you started this thread. I am scheduled for surgery on the 20th. I started my liquid diet day before yesterday. I'm like Fenton, I gulp it down as quick as I can. I am on Optifast, but sounds like I may need to try the unjury. Where do you get it?

T

Had my last pre op appointment yesterday.....one step closer.

It was another educational meeting with our support group....I was amused that I didn't hear anything that I hadn't already read here! Good to know exactly what my doc wants, though!

Gave us a little goodie bag with a Water bottle, pedometer, journal and a few other things.....

OH....and dropped off the gigantic checks....that was a little painful, probably moreso than the surgery.

I will start my liquid phase on Tuesday!

GAME ON!

I am being banded on March 18th by DR. Mumford at the SWLC near Toronto Ontario. I have already cancelled my first surgery date back in Nov, due to being extremely nervous ,,,but i know this is what i want and need to do. I am 400lbs and BMI is 58.my pre op diet is 5 weeks of optifast and nothing 12hrs before surgery really have a hard time staying with the optifast , it just tastes like crap.

so i end up starving for a day or two and hitting the carbs really hard ,,, a bagel never tasted so good , that's why I am only down 10lbs since I started. Anyways this is a great thread, thanks to fenton for starting it and i get alot of support by just reading your posts.Hope fenton is doing well,,we are both in the same BMI and weight category so I am looking forward to hearing that he had a positive experience .Also does anyone know where to buy UNJURY in Toronto,I am going to try to use it with a low carb low cal diet fro the next 10 days before my surgery date,,i would really like to get down to 375 for the 18th,,,Thanks P.S. still extremly nervous

My date is the 18th also, pipes!

We'll get through it.........

The only place I've seen UNJURY is online, I've googled the hell out of it trying to find a retail outlet, but looks like that's the only way to go.

They're shipping costs are reasonable, though and pretty quick delivery.

Hi guy's I was banded on the 5th of March. I have had a lot of pain in my right shoulder. has anyone else had this problem? how long did it last?

I am trying to walk. took shower yesterday. sore in spot where the band is located. just wanted to see how March banders were feeling during recovery.

I am lucky, my doctor's office has their own "store" for buying many of the potien products: unjury and HealthWise. Unjury has great fruit drinks, coffees, hot chocolates, shakes puddings. yummy I haven't tried any of the soupas and broths

my doc says 2-3 days before surgery, liquid diet, and nothing else. i am doing 1-2 meals a day protien drinks...

surgery is 3/19........Dr. Gail Wynn, Newark, DE

I never thought about the candy or meat thermometer, great idea...

I am afraid to take my measurements, it seems so depressing... but a good idea..to see how far I am going after surgery.

Pictures are always a plus for before and after, i know the weight loss will be seen in my face first , then the boobs...why do the boobs go first LOL

Congrats to all those March Bandsters, and good luck to all of us having the surgery later in the month

Well, five days out of surgery and feeling pretty good. I'm sore and I'm still sitting up when I sleep but I don't hurt as much as I did initially.

It doesn't seem like my hunger has fully returned yet - I'm still sipping my Water or decaf iced green tea all day. Every hour, I have 2 oz of a full liquid - which has been my unjury Protein shakes, brother, cream of wheater, oatmeal, pudding, Jello, yogurt, etc. I'll be on full liquids for the next 5 weeks, so I'm sure I'll be feeling the hunger sooner or later.

I've been weighing myself daily, even though I know I shouldn't even worry about weight loss right now. I know the next month is all about healing as opposed to losing weight. However, I was pleased to see 10 pounds lost since surgery. So far, so good.

I love having all of you other March Bandsters to compare notes with and share experiences with. It is making this journey so much easier for me. I'm grateful to have such a friendly and encouraging sounding board. :biggrin2:
