Recommended Posts

Ok so Dr. John is AMAZING!! He had the lap-band done himself so he's very sympathetic and can let you know exactly what to expect!! He's very caring and KNOWS what he's doing!!!! I am a Christian, so him praying with me before surgery meant alot and I didn't even ask.....haha. Good man...GREAT SURGEON...and great hospital!!! Knew he was the surgeon for me the first time I met him!! And he does all his own seminars!!! I mean what more can you ask for...Plus his office is very very helpful in matters of insurance..they submitted my stuff online and I was approved in 10 minutes! SO Alabamians JOHN GROVES IS THE WAY TOO GO!!!

I think he is the one I will be using if I decide this is right for me. Do you mind me asking how much weight you lost?

Dr. Britt and Dr. Groves will be providing monthly support meetings beginning this month. The meetings will alternate between Marshall Medical North in Guntersville and Marshall Medical South in Albertville. See the following link to view their calendar for dates and time.

http://www.samc.stirsite.com/page/page/2453219.htm

Just a note for all those wishing to use Dr. Britt or Dr. Groves. They no longer have a Madison Office and will not be holding any more seminars in Huntsville/Madison. Their last 2 seminars only produced 3 attendees each. Seminars will now be held in Guntersville or Albertville.

With the high level of care and compassion these great doctors have for their patients, it is worth the drive to Guntersville or Albertville. Their aftercare and wonderful staff makes them the best choice in Alabama in my opinion. They are doing LAP-BAND® surgery 2-3 days a week now. They believe in the surgery and the need to provide great after care with follow up visits and fills (adjustments).

Hi,

What was your nutrition visit?

Was it isn the hospital? How long did your surgery take? Did you get to go home same day.?

thanks

The nutrition visit is basically you going to Guntersville right past the Walmart there and sitting in with others to listen to a nutritionist talk about how you should be eating afterward. There is a question/answer time and it took about an hour.

Beware, there is an $80 fee for this.

My hospital stay was done on outpatient basis. The surgery took about an hour. I did go home that evening and arrived at home around six, with my surgery being at noon.

Good Luck! God Bless!

btw, my ticker isn't correct any longer. :sneaky:

I go May 6, to see Dr. Groves about getting the Lap Band. I was told I would have my surgery within 10 days of my first visit. I am so excited about it!!

I was wanting to get a jump start on my pre-op diet, but I have no idea how (or even if) he does them. Did he have any of you on a pre-op diet??

Hi,

Congrats on your decision to have your lapband done. Also on choosing to use Britt & Groves, they are the best.

I know that there has to be a six month pre-op diet for most insurance companies to approve. This diet has to be monitored by your reg. doctor.

My husband is doing this now and will hopefully have his surgery scheduled about the time you have your first appointment.

We are excited. It has been a year since I had mine. I haven't lost it as fast as I thought I would, but I am still losing and that is what counts. (my ticker is correct now :scared2:

The pre-op diet could be one of two different diets. Similar to the Atkins, w/protein being your main goal. Or counting calories w/protein still being the main part of the meal.

I personally couldn't do Atkins and had to do the calorie counting.

Good Luck!! You found a wonderful site to get your questions answered. Feel free to email me at anytime at the same user name as here, but at hot mail instead.

Have a great day,

Sherry French

Losing slow is still losing! It's like pennies... They may not be worth much alone, but they add up!!

I am not using insurance- I have Care Credit, so basically, I am self pay. It is $15,500 for everything during the first year. I guess, since I only have a year to get everything done and going right, they hurry things along. They are supposed to do a private seminar, a "teaching class" (I'm assuming that's on what and how to eat) the financing, and seeing the doctor, all on the same day- Then they will schedule my surgery for a date with in 10 days of that day. Because I am not going through insurance, I don't know if I will have to do things the same.

Regardless, I have been drinking 2 "whey Protein" shakes a day, and having a piece of grilled chicken and a salad for dinner. I figure I may as well get used to the shakes, and if I can't stick to it before the surgery, then I won't be able to after!!

Thanks so much for answering my question!! I am super excited! Good luck to your husband!:scared2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
