It usually takes about a week. It’s a slow process as the gas rises up behind your lungs & puts pressure on a nerve which causes the discomfort. The gas is then absorbed into your lungs where you breathe it out. Walk, walk, walk slow & gently for short periods of time a few times a day. March on the spot, do arm legs & slow deep breathing. Anything to get you breathing more without straining your body, damaging your sutures & staples, etc. Using heat pads can help with the discomfort.

All the best.
