Specialist: 4-5months stall. Explanations please!!

FORGIVE THE LENGTHY MESSAGE. NEED TO GIVE CONTEXT

I am wondering if any one experienced this
my starting weight was 139kg before surgery on the 15th of January 2023
on day of surgery it was 131kg
2 weeks post-op i was stalled for 8weeks which was not a bother to me at the time
i healed quite quickly with no complications and was moved to solids within 3 weeks by the dietitian too.
between January and April i lost some weight down to 111kg
Since april i have not lost anything. I have gained and lost 3-4 kg since April till date which is September 6th 2023
I do everything many people say on every platform which had never been a challenge namely
Monitor what i eat: I eat between 88 - 1200 calories
I have more Protein than anything eggs, lean meat, chicken, fish, shrimps
carbs are mostly bulgur wheat. which i have sparingly 2ce a month. Plantain i have daily to balance my protein intake but not as much as protein. I prob have more grams of protein a day and that includes protein Water.< br style="font-size:14px;" /> I work out 4-5 days a week for up to 1:30 - 2:00 hours each day
In April i worked out more 4 days a week 2ce a day 2day time cardio 1:30 hours night time strength training. no weights heavier than 25kg

i take my Vitamins Biotin and all recommended as well as powdered collagen
Recent bloods shows everything within normal range.

I am going into my 5th month and i am still 111kg Since April.
My dietitian is numb on what is going on, the nurse recommended liquid collagen ( which makes no sense) and have said hormones.... but hormones cannot affect this 5months straight.
I did bloods to check my thyroids and it showed elevated parathyroid (no idea what that means)..... not gotten an explanation as my Vitamin levels and Calcium levels are normal
my nails are very soft and brittle and my hair falls like the weather ( only blessed to have a full head of hair but cant say it is helpful soon)

No ...... the clothes i wore in April are still the same September. measurements are the same..... the only win i am getting from this is that my knee and ankle dont hurt as much when i workout. i dont burn out as i used to and i work out more than i used to before which was walking up to 50k-70ksteps a day.


I have never been one who drank alcohol and havent started post surgery. I have never been one who ate junk food like crisps, tacos, burgers.
I have not been diagnosed diabetic nor with PCOS

i noticed when i had no carbs in my diet i lost fast but when i introduced carbs as suggested by the dietitian everything came on hold

I NEED SOME SIGN THAT I AM NOT IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE OR A LONG DREAM!!!
Cos it feels pointless having done the surgery not to be an effective tool

Anyone in a similar predicament before

@Jonathan Carlson she said i am doing fine with my caloric intake. she did recommend more carbs as it will regulate the Protein (she says)
not sure what my muscle mass is to be honest. Dont have a baseline nor know how to measure.
but will an increase in muscle mass cause the body to not loose weight for that lengthy period of time ?

dont get me wrong i am all for very toned no loose skin body and if that is the case yippiiee!! (lol)

Even if you were gaining muscle weight, you would notice a change in the way your clothes fit.

When my nutritionist told me to eat carbs pre-op, my Keto mind screamed no. I did it though and lost weight. But I highly limited them. If you are not tracking on an app like Bariastic. you can easily consume way more carbs or calories than what you need. Some people can drink their calories for the day before ever eating any food.

I would limit those carbs and be mindful of how much you are eating in a day. I know before surgery, I told everyone I didn't eat that much till I started tracking my food intake and was shocked to find out I was overeating.

Also..not sure what surgery you had but my doc told me of a sleeve patient/friend of hers that did everything right and lost only 30 pounds within the first year. She ended up putting her on Ozempic to help. So there are some people who simply don't respond as well to the surgery based on age, meds etc. But before going that route, I would examine the food intake amounts first. Good luck!!!

@BabySpoonsI track everything. I have a lot more Protein than Carbs.

Dietitians excuse is i am not having enough carbs to regulate my protein. But is when i introduced carbs into my meal that everything went belle up.
I don't follow a very strict Keto, as i tend to have carb substitutes or healthier carbs like Shirataki and bulgur.
I am doing everything right (and then some)

Sadly, i cant get on Ozempic, cos it is not recommended for those who have parents or grandparents with medullary thyroid cancer (MTC)
food intake throughout the day as i measured is about 16- 18 oz on a very hungry day and it is spread across the day. predominantly protein cos those fill me up more and cos i work out quite often i am mostly always hungry but cant eat a lot as i get full easily when i have protein.
I guess that is why i am also able to take a lot of Water.< br /> Dietitan claim water can also be a culprit.

At this point i am convinced no one knows anything and just grasping at thin air.
So i am reverting back to just having full protein with a hint of carb sparingly. and see if that works. I should prob stick to what has worked for my body rather than.....

It would be good to hear from someone who experience similar and know if they found the culprit

Ok, so In hyperparathyroidism, one or more of the parathyroid glands is overactive. As a result, the gland makes too much parathyroid hormone (PTH). Too much PTH causes Calcium levels in your blood to rise too high, which can lead to health problems such as bone thinning and kidney stones. Excess parathyroid hormone can lead to negative effects on the body such as osteoporosis which can lead to fractures, kidney stones, decreased kidney function, heart disease, pancreatitis, increased acid secretion in the stomach and ulcers. Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) very often causes Vitamin D deficiency, and so it is common for patients to be told to take Vitamin D supplements. Surgery to remove the enlarged glands is the most common treatment for primary hyperparathyroidism and provides a cure in most cases.

As for this weird stall thing, what kinds of working out do you do? When I had stalls for 4, 5, 6, 7 weeks long, I added weight training, core and strength training, and intense cardio, beginners pilates (using the wall for balance/less intensity). I work out 4-5 days per week. On those days, I have higher carbs and calories, on rest days I have less. I make sure to get around 84oz of Water per day, and on work out days, at least 20 of those ounces are from a zero sugar gatorade or a Propel. Watch what you drink, because it's super easy to drink your calories and carbs without realizing it. Make sure you're eating enough per day. I do 3 small meals and 1-2 Snacks, each about 3 hours apart. You want to make sure you get Protein, but don't overdo it. Too much protein isn't good for you, either. You want protein first, then veggies, then carbs when you eat. I cut out sugar and salt, but if I really need salt, I use pink Himalayan salt. I use Monk Fruit sweetener, if I really need it. I hope this helps out some.

workout routing is 4-5 Times a week. 1:30hours cardio one day and 1:20 hours cardio for 3 days (40mins jogging 20mins hill walk 20mins elliptical)

5th day is more strength training and it’s up to 10 variations with 20mins cardio

strength training mostly arms back core and I do a variation of 6-8 different upper body and core 4-5 sets of each variation 10-15 reps minimum weight is 15kg.

had always been doing weight training when I got the all clear a month after surgery until 3months ago when I started elliptical on,y calories I drink is my Protein Water. Which isn’t up to 500ml per day. Along with 2.5-3liters of water

1 liter is usually covered during workout

I noticed I don’t eat up to 21oz of food through the day mostly protein

I had stalls thru out my journey. One stall was 5 months. After that stall I lost a huge amount of weight very quickly. If you noticed how your body is acting with carbs cut the carbs.

Yes, .muscle weighs 7 times more than fat. How are your cloths fitting? You can lose inches without losing weight!

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
