I had my two week follow up today. 23 lbs lost. Staples removed. Everything is looking good. They did permit me to move on to soft foods a day early, so today I had that glorious fried egg that I’ve been craving. I also had about half a cup of cottage cheese, and I made Ricotta bake and had about half a cup of it. Tomorrow I’m making some refried beans with red sauce and cheddar…like Taco Bell used to make. I may survivor this after all. ?

Are we supposed to be meeting protein goals during the clear liquids portion of the post op diet? I am not allowed protein shakes until Saturday but I have protein water and I’m not sure if I should be trying to drink it….

Sounds like your plan is like mine and the short answer is no. At first you are just focused on staying hydrated. The number one reason for hospital readmission post bariatric surgery is dehydration.

Ditto this. I was concerned about it, too and my doc just said to focus on getting 40-64oz of fluids in and worry about protein after Day 4.

Sounds like you are doing great! I'm still on the liquid diet until my surgery monday so those food sound amazing.

You shouldn’t have to go to hospital if you see signs of dehydration and don’t wait till it’s emergent. Just call your team and they should be able to arrange fluids as an out patient. I was so anxious about that for no reason. I just went to a different part of the hospital building and sat In a recliner while I got two bags of fluids. It was no big deal and I was good as new.

Had surgery yesterday 14th of September. Released from hospital today. Feeling ok

Hello - I'm new to the site but my surgery is September 27th. I'm very nervous because I was switched from sleeve to bypass. Looking forward to connecting with everything and learning.

Had my surgery on the 12. Having problems getting all fluids in.. trying to push 4 oz every hour..walking around house. Looking forward to being pain free.. one day at a time

I'm new here my surgery is Monday too. I actually got through the liquid diet! All the food they show on commercials does get to me though LOL I'm a little nervous and anxious but I believe that's normal cuz I'm also getting very excited to have this done!!

Hi All, my first post here and I have had my sleeve done today, a bit sore and have to wait until tomorrow to have leakage test before I can drink. Any tips for the next couple of weeks ahead?

Sip your water CONSTANTLY! Don’t allow yourself to get dehydrated. If you do, (I did) then call your doctor and they’ll arrange for you to get some IV fluids. Don’t worry so much about hitting your protein goals for the first few days. Just keep drinking. Start incorporating some bone broth and protein waters. (My fave is the blue Protein2O.) Walk some to get the gas they fill you with to move! Take chewable GasX. After about two weeks start your chewable vitamins (I take Barimelts. Multivitamin with iron, B12, Biotin, and Probiotic.) Add in Zinc along with your Biotin to avoid hair loss. Take Senekot to help with constipation. I’m trying to think of anything else I do….. I hope this helps!! ???
