So the gas pain has gone away from everywhere except my left side. It's concentrated from under my left breast to my ribs, shoulder, and neck. I walk, I took gas x, nothing is helping. Anyone have any other advice? It's excruciating and makes it very painful to take deep breaths or even get comfortable.

There's nothing you can do except just let it run its course.

Not what you wanted to hear, I know. It sucks! Those deep breaths feel like a sharp bolder smashing and stabbing you at the same time. ☹️

Mine got much better after 4 days and then I just had a little annoying pain in my shoulder that went away in another day or 2.

What kcuster83 said. And it's moving upwards since it's near your shoulder and neck, that means it's almost gone. So that's the good part. At this point since you're walking already all you can do is comfort measures like changing from sitting to reclining positions and warm/hot showers and using heating pads. Hang in there, it's almost disappated now!

It's so funny....I didn't get the pain everyone talks about....around the neck/shoulders/side. I had gas just inside....the pain was right above my bellybutton. Walking didn't do anything....it wasn't until I was at home and could just pass gas that I felt way better! That was day 2-3 for me.

Hope you feel better soon!

I've had three surgeries where they used CO2 gas, they were all robotic, and one more upcoming for my revision soon... I've had gas pains with all except one, my gallbladder removal surgery. I'm not sure what the difference is. The same surgeon that removed my gallbladder also placed my Lap Band, and I had gas pain after the Band. I can only hope that my RNY revision produces no gas pains, and the surgeon who removed my Lap Band last year will be doing the RNY surgery, so according to my statistics for myself, this next surgery for revision should produce no gas pains. 😂

Who am I kidding, lol. I know I'll have those gas pains, lol.

WHEEW I would not want to relive that gas pain. All my surgeries have been open so no gas was used. They were all less painful than the gas pain.

Haha yeah. I had a fleur de lis Tummy Tuck a couple years ago and it wasn't painful at all. Huge incisions, muscle repair, major tissue dispruption and it really wasn't painful. But the gas is definitely a bit uncomfortable. Idk I might be a freak of nature because I even did labor without drugs when I had my son.

OH MY I had skin removal with muscle repair too and it was the worse of all my surgeries! The only surgery I actually used constant narcotics for!

I even had my leg cut in half and rebuilt and used no narcotics.

I thought I had a high tolerance for pain but damn you go girl!

I think the fact that my hospital does abdominal nerve blocks is what saved me from that acute post op pain.

Wow that leg surgery seems brutal. So sorry you dealt with that!

The labor pains produced this sort of euphoric high, I can't explain it. Probably my body's way of dealing with pain/shock, lol. I think it's called birth euphoria. I definitely experienced it.

Yea that nerve block is probably nice. haha I never had one.

Also, no babies here and don't plan on it. I have heard about the euphoria before though.

My mom and I are having the procedure done on the same day, and I was telling her the only thing I worry about is the gas pains. I had my gallbladder removed years ago and sure my stomach was sore, but my shoulder(s) were far worse.

A heating pad is very helpful :)

My hubby went right out and got me one when I told him it was suggested on here and MAN!!!! You are so right. The pain is still there, but I can tell it's slooooowly lessening. And it really helps with having a good sleep. I'm FREEZING all the time now!!!!! I was always the one keeping the house at 68 or 69. Now I keep it at 71 with my blanket and heating pad lol

Oh I am so glad it is helping. I use a heating pad for comfort and warmth frequently.

Please take good care of yourself. It gets better soon. :)

I'm happy the heating pad is working for you, just don't put it over top of your incisions (I know it's unlikely because that's not where your CO2 gas pains are, but FYI) until they're healed properly. You might have less sensation due to the nerves being cut so you could burn yourself without knowing, and the heat can cause increased blood flow to the incisions resulting in bleeding.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
