Trusting a fart

I’m nervous. I am one week post op. I have been passing gas but one I almost farted but at the last minute realized it was diarrhea and almost pooped myself. I had a distal gastric bypass which is similar to the duodenal switch with malabsorption. Will this get better? I’m really afraid of becoming incontinent

Even though I'm two years out, I can sometimes feel when something may go either way (fart or diarrhea). I take no chances and go right into the bathroom so if it's diarrhea, no problem. But most of the time, it's very obvious from the feelings I get that it's distinctively one or the other.
